So I think several of us here on the forum have dipped into HT, so a thread should be started for them. HT has been the latest money eater to my collection, and has vastly become my favorite. I only collect Marvel/DC related figures, since I have to be selective with this line

Some places to buy Hot Toy figures:

I have only purchased from 2 places so far.

2) Toy2 (http://www.toys2.net)
Toys2 is a direct dealer for Hot Toys. So any QC issues that you may have can be dealt with by them, no problem (ie. broken LED, bad paint, etc)

Eric is an awesome guy to deal with as well. Always willing to help

They do charge in USD, which I find weird, but since the dollar is on par; it's no big deal.

3) Legends Action Figures (http://www.legendsactionfigures.com/)

I haven't dealt with them directly, but the prices seem to be similar to what SPC charges, but without free shipping. They are located in Montreal, so for anybody in that area; it might be easier to just order directly in store

4) Urban Samurai Hobbies (http://www.urbansamuraihobbies.com/brands/Hot-Toys.html?page=2&sort=featured) located in Burnaby, Vancover

Their preorder price is less than retail and they have flat shipping within Canada for 13.95CAD. However they only ship once a week, which means our impatient selves need to wait :p

The Burton Batmobile was just announced. $630 at Sideshow (http://www.sideshowtoy.com/?page_id=4489&sku=901393&ref=related_901393), but it is being released in Q2 of 2013. So that should give some people the time to save lol

I'd like them to reissue the Batpod. I've realized I will never own a Tumbler or even the Burton Batmobile, just due to sheer size. My GF already makes a fuss whenever she sees my SDF-1. I don't know how she'd react to seeing the Tumbler.

Alas. I will have to live vicariously through CTO. I still want a Burton Batman though.

Haha. It's not the cost, it's the size. She knows I save up for this stuff and don't spend other non toy money. She has her eye on children in the near future, so she's looking at my toy den as a baby room now. This is why I packed up my GI Joes, and soon many other toys will follow.

I told her our baby could ride on the Tumbler, but she was not amused.

ahh I see I see. So if its the physical space that is the problem, perhaps you have to combine function and fashion

Okay, what's the deal with this "oil" I keep hearing about on some of the figures that's causing some problems?

I'm not sure of other figures, but it was a huge problem with the DX 02 TDK Batman when it was first released. The abs would actually secrete oil, givin a shiny look to them. This was a problem in 1st set of releases, but was "fixed" in the latter releases of the DX 02 when it was distributed by DC Direct.

Now, the DX 09 Keaton Batman is showing signs of the same thing. People are seeing an "oil" substance appearing between the belt and waist of the figure. From what I've seen, it doesn't look as a bad of an issue like the DX 02; but people are still freaking out.

So, that's why I hope hot toys stays away from rubber bodies, especially with the up coming hulk release.

I have no real experience with the game series, but it basically looks like a dude that got a really bad boob job.

I have a question for you Hot Toys collectors, how poseable are these figures? Most of the pictures I see of them are standing straight up. Like an example would be, can they squat down? And how durable is a suit like the one on that Snake figure?

I only have one, Superman, so I'm probably not the best answering this, but he's articulated, but it's not like DCUC or MU level articulation, you know? It's actually quite limited due to the clothes, etc. If you're expecting GI Joe type stuff, you will be disappointed. CTO will be able to answer you better.

I haven't decided if I will buy more HT, so I am interested to know how some of the Iron Man or Batman figures feel/fare. Basically ones that don't have fabric for their outfits. Don't get me wrong, I love my Reeves Superman, but it feels more like a doll to me than an action figure.

Yeah, wasn't expecting the Boss to look like that.

Thanks. Yeah, I think I only played one MGS game, and that was for the PS I think. I really do think she looks horrendous though. I find when HT fails at something, they fail really hard.

Thanks pud!

Funny thing is I have Superman too, but I don't have room to display him so I just marvel at it inside the box:doh:

I agree with you on the cloth/doll thought as well. I am more interested in Iron Man from Hot Toys because I feel it is more worth the price. But I am a huge MGS fan, so I am considering this one as well. Although I feel the Play Arts Snake feel more like an action figure since I can pose him without worry of his clothes tearing and such:p

I mean, the Hot Toys figures are beautiful, but I just don't want to lose the action in my action figures.;)

For the most part, the bodies underneath the costumes are very articulated

https://encrypted-tbn3.google.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcT87KfU3a_DAXPKIWPhplPVrS3Tl2vsT rm3Ttz4RuGPVeaAd7zVjg
https://encrypted-tbn2.google.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQjVwe9ea3-sIOFjrOJn_YYivXuozrVKlPvEgps9N-bysfMJ5Z-

All very similar, just different details on them. The main thing that hinders articulation is the clothing that surrounds the body.

For instance, the Batman Begins/Bruce Wayne set that was released last summer has great articulation for a rubber suit body

http://gothamtrending.files.wordpress.com/2011/08/batman-begins-bruce-wayne-christian-bale-hot-toy-3.jpg

However, I would recommend against prolong poses, because there are chances where the suit will rip, and the same goes for the bodies that have a rubber covering (ie. Hellboy, Leonidas, etc)

So the bodies are poseable, but the costumes hinder the poses, like the TFA Captain America. His upper armor really hinder any upper shoulder movement.

As for the Iron Man figures, I can say that for the most part, they are pretty solid. IMO the original MK III release is the most solid figure for any IM figure. I say this because as the suit details have become more intricate (more removeable pieces) there is an increase chance for something breaking.

I hope that helps, let me know if you have any other questions

if you don't care for the BD parts, just wait for the Avengers release. It'll be a straight re-release with a different alt Tony head (previously released with the Mech Test Tony Stark). Hopefully it'll be around the price you are looking at.

Some updates I read about upcoming hot toys:

-8-9 figures from the Avengers line has been planned
-hulk will have some rubber, but not a full rubber body
-black widow will hair will be sculpted hair
-green lantern license has been canceled
-racing suit Tony stark and armored whiplash are being postponed for other projects (most likely avengers and batman)
-dx versions of Rocky and Apollo Creed are in the works

yeah I'm kinda disappointed by the headsclupt. After the image of that guy holding Thor was shown, I was soo pumped for it. Hopefully they bring Thor back to the table and redo the sculpt a little. The framework is there, just needs some small tweaking (like the Chris Reeves sculpt)

Maybe they'll surprise us and give us an additional tunic to change thor into the sleevless look, wishful thinking really.

Hey Guys.
I'm a Hot Toys newbie. Just wondering where you guys buy your Hot Toys figures for the best deals. I was considering buying them from Sideshow but then I remembered about taxes and duties.

Is there any Canadian online stores that sell them for relatively the same price as Sideshow with some extra perks.

I've already checked out SuperPowerCollectibles, but they've already sold out Nick Fury, Hawkeye and Captain America.

CTO15

for Hot Toys stores in Canada I would reccomend either Super Power Collectibles or Toys2.net

Both are in Canada, the nice thing about Super Power Collectibles is that they have a rewards program. Not to mention Marcio (the owner) is an awesome guy to deal with. The prices are better then Toys2, because Marcio offers free shipping on items over $100

For toys2, they are a direct distributor of Hot Toys. So any QC issues can be handled by them (ie. broken LED, scratched, dents on figures etc). They charge by USD though, which now really doesn't matter since the dollar is on par.

hope that helps

^^^^ thanks for the kind words!!

The free shipping and reward points are a great bonus for sure!

Hot Toys items sell out very quickly usually for us. We don't get as many as Toys2.

The only Avenger available for pre- order right now is THOR.

^CTO15, thanks for the tips.

I just PO Thor at SuperPowerCollectibles. I did email you guys earlier about whether or not you'd be getting more PO's for Fury, Haweye and Captain America. It's too bad you guys don't get that many orders in. I guess Hot Toys isn't that popular in Canada, or maybe too expensive.

I'm going to have to cut back on spending with other figures in other to complete the avengers series.

I'm really looking forward to seeing the rest of the figures.
Does Hot Toys always start pre-orders 6~7 months before release? So far I've been only collecting Japanese based figures so I'm only use to a 3~4 month wait.

According to the interview with Hot Toys in April, Hulk will not be a rubber coated figure but a mix of PVC and other materials.

I know there was a guy on sideshowcollectors.com that was making them for awhile. But nothing for online stores

hrm...i found a few guys on slideshowfreaks that have made decal sheets up. im afraid to bother them since it looks like it has been ages since they originally offered them to people though. ill just have to get over being to overly polite and pm them.

on a side note, my war machine was broken the day after pulling it out. it looks like a got a bad waist joint possibly broken during shipping. i literally haven't moved it in order for it to be something i did to it. i went to move him to one side when cleaning my display area and "POP"

the good thing is he still holds together when i set the upper onto the lower but like you can imagine its not as good as it would be if they where still joined and the ab crunch no longer works
im thinking of trying to put a couple magnets in place to hold him together and keep his articulation a possibility.

I finally took the plunge this past weekend on ebay for my first Hot Toys figures: Ironman Mk.II Armor Unleashed and Mk.V. Managed to grab them both from the same seller in BC who offered me free shipping to Montreal if I bought both of them, which wasn't too bad, I guess.

Now the tricky part is getting the rest of them. I'm nowhere near a big Ironman fan, but these just look too good at this point in time, and I totally regret not jumping on the bandwagon earlier on during the releases.

I don't plan to get any of the non-Ironman figures (Tony Stark, Whiplash, Iron Monger, etc), but I'm hoping to complete the regular set of suits, including War Machine.

The Mk.1 is being re-released as a ver2.0, and the Mk.7 is going to come out later on, so I'm not worried about those two. I'm hoping that the release of the Suit Gantry will drive down the price of the Mk.4, but that still leaves the Mk.3, Mk.6, and War Machine at insane prices online...

Managed to nab one of those Mk.VI when it first went up.
I'm a latecomer to Hot Toys, and I just decided last week that I'd buy the Ironman stuff.

I don't mind the lack of battle-damage parts, but I do prefer the face-reveal-helmet instead of the bare head, and I prefer the regular "Ironman" stand instead of the "Avengers" one. But all in all, a really good price to easily get the Mk.VI.

I found another online Canadian store that sells Hot Toys.
Urban Samurai Hobbies, located in Burnaby, Vancover
http://www.urbansamuraihobbies.com/brands/Hot-Toys.html?page=2&sort=featured

Their preorder price is less than retail and they have flat shipping within Canada for 14.50CAD.
So the final cost is about the same as SuperPowerCollectibles.

Not sure how long it takes them to get the figures in and ready for sale though.
I just PO Captain America with them, no deposit needed.

Well, some people have said that it's run by the same people who ran the old A3U.
Personally, I've never had an issue with Spencer even during the period of the big mess (in fact, my experience with him and his store was quite pleasant even until the end), so I took the plunge and ordered the $500 Mk.IV+Gantry from there. I just got billed for it, so we'll see how this goes. :)

Haha. Yeah.

I bought the Mk.II AU and Mk.V on eBay, and while it was in-transit to me from BC, the Avengers Mk.VI went up for order at Sideshow Collectibles. So I bought and received that, and then received the other two.

I'm actually splitting the Mk.IV+Gantry with someone; I have no need/use/space for the Gantry, I just mainly needed a Mk.IV.

And then comes the waiting game. Mk.I ver2.0 in August, Mk.VII whenever they release it, and like everyone else, I'm hoping for a Mk.III ver2.0 based on the Mk.II AU molds...

And somewhere in-between, I gotta get myself a War Machine. My wallet's hating me. :D

I have been to their store in Lougheed Mall. Urban Samurai was the main store, and A3U had a wall to themselves within the store. A3U, from what I understood, was sold by Spencer to a new owner (Boris?) And just a couple months ago, the Urban Samurai sign on the outside of the store was replaced with an A3U sign, and form what I gather, it's A3U now. Whatever happened to Urban Samurai, whether A3U took them over or if US is just an online retailer now as a separate entity to A3U, or whatever... I have no idea.

Long story short - I have never really had any negative dealings with them, even with Spencer from A3U, but I never really bought anything online. I always went into the store to buy, but from what I can see, the new guys seem pretty decent. I have a Maketoys Giant on preorder with A3U, so they'd better come through, lol.

And now I'm done for the time being with Hot Toys! Still missing a few, but for now:
- Mk.I = ver2.0 coming in August
- Mk.III = like everyone else, hoping for a ver2.0 based on the Mk.II AU mold
- Mk.IV = I have my Suit-Up Gantry + Mk.IV preordered
- Mk.VII = whenever they release him

Thanks for the heads up. I didn't really fiddle around with his torso much; I was already afraid of breaking something when I was trying to pull out his shoulder rockets.

Sadly, the head and hand batteries were dead (the chest ones were fine), so now I gotta go buy some.

Here are my Ironmen so far. Only awaiting the Mk.IV+Gantry now, and probably toss in a preorder for the Mk.I.
http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e18/tidalwav/Miscellaneous/HT_Ironman_mk256WM.jpg

So as a separate part, I bought an extra one of those Hall-of-Armor bases that come with the Mk.II AU or the Mk.V. While it works fine on the Mk.VI, it does NOT work well with War Machine. The clear rod interferes with the ammo belt coming out of War Machine's back. The only way to get it work on him is to cut the rod short (which I'm not sure I'm willing to do).
I'm going to see if I can find a shorter rod of similar thickness to replace it.

CTO15
06-25-2012, 07:34 PM
Yes sir. This is what you need to make the Room

Materials
1) 2 foam boards - bought from Michael's for $2 each. These are the side/back wall
2) 1 really dense foam board, I was able to snag this from Sun Glass hut (its from their promotional signs). Use for the floor. You can probably get a wood board or something.
3) popsicle sticks for the door frame, and mirror frame - $1 for a huge bag from Dollorama or any dollar store
4) Mirror - $1 mirror from Dollarama or a dollar store, you could buy a second if you want to simulate the broken mirror
5) Paints, once again bought from Dollarama.
6) Future floor wax - used to seal in the paint.

Tools
1) Mirror cutter $6 from Home Depot
2) Pencil
3) Steak Knife - use the knife to cut the foam board, gives a nice clean cut.
4) Glue Gun and sticks
5) Ruler
6) Sculpting tool, or anything with a small rounded end, that you can texture the bricks with
7) White Glue

The bricks are measured out. 1 cm high, and alternating patterns of 1 cm and 3 cms long. Just continue until you fill the board. I then went over the outlines of the brick using the sculpting tool to help simulate the texture of the bricks

To simulate the weld points on the door, I used the white glue and dabbed it on and let dry. Continue until you get the appropriate size.

Hope that helps

I just saw this today. Not HT, but it is 1/6th:

Batman looks really good. I might actually bite on this. What do you guys think of Medicom Real Action Heroes? Comparable to HT? I love the HT Batman figures, but I've always been partial to the comic look, especially Jim Lee's stuff which is what this is based on (Hush, I believe). Definitely cheaper than HT, but it looks like much less accessories. BBTS has them for $164.99.

That rubber suit looks like it would limit articulation however. I really wish 6" figures looked this good. I would buy them in a heartbeat. Still not sure about the large 1/6th scales. I like my Christopher Reeves Superman, but I don't think I've touched him since I got him. He mostly sits at the very top of the bookshelf, staring down at the wee little humans. That's what's keeping me from getting more 1/6 toys. If I'm pretty much not touching the toy, it means I'm not really into the line.

I haven't heard the greatest things about medicom, generally trend is that they are expensive for cheap products. I don't have any personal experience, but I would recommend waiting till SDCC. Sideshow has the the comic license for DC now, and they are going to be making 1/6 figures. So something might be shown at SDCC.

I do like the HS for batman though, so I might kit bash something further down the line

From what I can tell it's not a rubber suit for the Medicom Hush Batman. It feels more like it's made out of some kind of foam.

GAH! What do I do!?!?! I really want the new HT Batman, but it's coming out in December, and I know Yamato is releasing their VF-4G, which I know will cost like $300-$350 + shipping and potential customs duties. GRRRRRR... If I knew exactly what the Yamato valk would cost, I could prepare myself, but the fear is that thing will cost $400 or over and I will not be able to afford Batman. Sigh. Decisions, decisions... He'd look so great on the shelf next to Superman...

Edit: Crap, I just realized Masterpiece Soundwave and Red Alert are also coming out at the end of the year. Forget it. I need to win the lottery. Clearly.

Woah. Catwoman is near perfect. They got the face just right. I wonder if the goggles are clear. They don't seem to be there. I'd like to see a photo of her with them over her eyes. Also, this is gonna sound pervy, but her chest needs a bit more cleavage, especially in a skintight suit like that. Comic book accuracy, amiright?!?! Haha.

Joker looks excellent as does Harley. Bats however looks odd. It's like they decided to depict Bruce in his later years. Looks like a 50 year old man under there. Superman looks decent, though the photo is pretty unflattering.

Dang. Overall the quality seems great. Can't decide if I should start this or get the other batman which I admit looks better in the head sculpt. Decisions, decisions... I guess I'll wait for prices. Looks like at least close to the $200 mark. Thanks for posting these.

Trying the Ultimates Look
http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm320/cto15/Action%20Figures/Hot%20Toys/85ed927d.jpg

Overall impression.

Pro:
-Very detailed, even down to the boot straps.
-The box art is fantastic
-this is my favorite look in Captain America TFA.
-the shield is awesome, the weathered look is a nice touch

Cons
-The use of the arm joints hinder range of movement, I can't lift the shield as high as I would want it.
-Price, for the price I paid; the figure should have been a 2-in-1 with the USO Captain America look.
-I wish there was more weathering to it, even an option to change the clothes to a "after battle" look

I would give this figure 8/10

Ah, yes. I've done that. Selling an entire line for one toy. My MU collection helped buy my SDF-1 and a good chunk of my DCUC helped buy MP-10. So long as the thing you are buying is awesome, which this seems like it is, you don't end up missing the other toys at all. I used to get MU toys and think, that's cool. Whatever. But I still look at my SDF-1 and think, damn that is awesome. Totally worth it!!!

Currently thinking of getting rid of my GI Joe collection so I have some money for other awesomeness.

I've ordered from Toys2.net a bit. BUt a majority of my POs now are with Super Power Collectibles (Hi Marcio!). From Toys2, shipping for a figure was around $15.

My Batpod sit in a case that 22 X 11 X 12"

Thanks for the response! That's what my dumbass gets for procrastinating, haha. Definitely let me know if someone cancels. If I could get one from you, that would be preferred, and then I would just cancel my BBTS order. Since Toys2 is charging more than BBTS, as well as shipping + taxes, I figure they'll work out somewhat the same in the end so long as I don't get hit by duty. I'm willing to take that chance, haha.

Interesting. I'm gonna call them. I think they're still connected with A3U, and A3U has a store in Burnaby. If I recall, they used to allow some 1/6th scale pickups from their store. Gonna see if I can swing that to avoid shipping charges.

Yeah, looking at reviews, it seems I need the Batpod, haha. I will be getting a Q2 bonus to cover the purchase. These will probably be my last big $$$ purchases besides one or two more valkyries, since everything is changing for me in six months. Gonna be a dad, so I am losing my toy room. :( But yay for the baby! haha. So I'm giving myself a nice "pre-baby" Christmas present!:clapping: Which will probably then go right back into the box. :(

Pudd, Urban Ninja still has it for PO

URban Ninja

http://www.urbansamuraihobbies.com/hot-toys-dark-knight-rises-bat-pod/

but for some reason it's cheaper to ship in the US then Canada? that makes no sense

It's cause they cross the border and probably use USPS shipping for the parcels being sent to American customers.
CanadaPost is ridiculously more expensive than USPS

I just ordered Mark VII at SPC for 239.99
Urban Samurai has it for 229.99USD + 13.95USD shipping, I like that you can cancel before the release, but I don't like that they bill in USD.

Anyway the cost of Mark VII is ridiculous, I was excepting something like 229.99 as retail.

Welcome, BoNKers! Nice toys!

Ooh, that's really compelling then... I really hated the IM movies, but I loved Avengers, so... I do want it, but as per usual, I can't decide. haha. I'm so much more decisive in every day life, but for some reason, I can't commit to toys until the very last second.

I'm gonna go do a hike right now, and think about it while I hike. Dang. It's gorgeous though. I love all the little compartments and missiles, etc.

Well, last night I hummed and hawed again on the Mark 7, and even though I had it in my cart several times and even got as close to the paypal page, I couldn't pull the trigger. I even tried to watch Avengers clips to get me into it, but in the end, I will pass for now on Iron Man. Gah. I hope I don't regret this. If I buy this, it is bad news, since I'll probably want the Hulk too then.

You got Sups and Bats to keep you company :D

But if you do end up getting IM, I would not sitting on it, because IM usually sells out after release (like a month or 2) and then his price increases by like $50-75 in like 6 months

Oh that's not too bad then. I'll see how things go with the finances and make my decision later. If I love Batman, I would be more likely to bite haha. 1/4 huh? Someone should just go and make a 1/1 lol.

Mostly due to CT015 being a horrible, terrible person I am committed to getting these figures in from the Avengers, and now Batman DKR.

It's crazy expensive, but if the quality is as good as you say, then i am looking forward to having and displaying these guys.

Currently have pre-ordered: Captain America Avengers Movie, Thor Avengers Movie, Hawkeye Avengers Movie, Iron Man MK VII Avengers Movie, Black Widow Avengers Movie and the Batman from Dark Knight Rises.

My wife is thrilled.... :S

Jeeze, you don't do anything halfassed, do you?

I am waiting to see how I feel about Batman before I grab any more. It's primarily why I couldn't pull the trigger on IM. I'm sure I'll like Batman, it's just a question of whether I go heavily into the line or just really pick and choose.

Direct from Sideshow, unfortunately. Toronto dealer was out every time I got a chance to check their links. I am worried about how much this will cost, especially with the Fall/Holiday releases, but such is the life of a CDO collector. And yes, that acronym is in alphabetical order, as it should be. ;)

Well, no, not really. I have always been a huge Marvel guy, and this was sort of a dream come true to have this film be in my lifetime, so I figure if I slow down on the rest of my spending to collect these guys, then I am doing okay for a bit, and lowering wife aggro too hopefully.

Batman was sort of a leap of faith for me, but seeing as how I will need a display case for these already, I can put him in there alongside some of the older Sideshow 12" Star Wars figures I have and finally get some of these out and proudly displayed at home, if only to torment my 3.5 year old daughter who will undoubtedly also want to play with these...

And the Nolan Batman films are likely the end of some amazing films that happen to be about a comic book character, unlike Avengers and Marvel Studio films which will be awesome Comic Book movies. So having this figure is also to commemorate that trilogy and the impact it has had on some of us.

Too wordy maybe?

Thanks guys, looking forward to posting pictures of these when they start to trickle in.

Oh, and Hulk Preorder done too.

I couldn't agree more. I wish I could get the Tumbler and the Bat, but there is no room for me. So the Bat Pod and Batman will have to do. The Nolan films are THE trilogy for me. Hands down. Congrats on all your preorders! Looking forward to photos of the assembled Avengers team.

Jealous of you guys. With the kid coming, I have lost my toy room. :( Everything has been packed up. All my little things are being sold or have been sold. Valkyries, TFs, etc. All packed up. I get to keep one bookshelf in the bedroom, where my DC stuff is currently set up, with my masterpiece TFs, and a few of Valkyries. The top shelf has my Reeves Supes, with a big space for the forthcoming Batman w/ Batpod. Sigh. Such is the reality when you live in 650 sq ft with a kid coming. Stupid kid isn't even born and they're already ruling my life! haha. That said, when we eventually sell this place and buy a new one, I will be looking to upgrade BIG TIME, so that I get a whole room to myself.
