I've been eyeing some of these Star Wars figures for a while now. Couple questions.

1) I see the same packaging for all the Starwars figures lately. What is the difference between Clone Wars, Legacy Saga, etc.?

2) Hasbo has the Star Wars license, but are all the figures T-crotched? What is the articulation like compared to the new Joes or MU? It seems they're more limited, and if so, does anyone know why they haven't embraced the newer articulation designs?

I don't collect SW but Clone Wars is from the Animated Movie (now a TV series I think) so the designs are based off that. Legacy Collection (I think that's the correct name) is from the original films.

Different lines of figures. The Clone Wars Figures are based of the artwork/animation from the new TV series. While the Legacy Figures are more the main line of traditional style figures.

I guess the question could be more of a why should they? They have been making a certain style of figure since 1995 and likely want to stick to that general design.

I for one don't want them to change.:)

They are not as articulate in general, that said the poses they can make look better because they don't have the chunky ball joint cod pieces(for lack of a better description).

To me thats more visually pleasing than the G.I.Joe style leg joints though those figures are more possable as you suggest.:)

Also I should note that there has been the odd super articulated figure in the Star Wars lines, with more flexible hips and what not. They are just few in number compared to the regular figures.

Cool, thanks Robimus! Some of the Clone Wars figures look really darned cool, but I think I might stick to the original films. Not sure yet, but we'll see if my wallet has room. Maybe wait for another sale.

As for the articulation, I totally get what you mean. I'm a fan of the DCIH line and while the articulation isn't like the Joes or anything, I think the molds look fantastic. Mattel is in the process of changing the articulation, but I don't want them to. I don't like change right in the middle of a line like that.

I just went to TRU today and noticed those new packaging, with 'Saga Legends' or something so I guess that's the new name for the Legacy figures.

Sorry for hijacking the thread, but I would like a Storm Trooper from the original movies. Just wondering which is the cheapest/easiest one to pick up or if there's one I can find in retail now.

There is a Sandtrooper in the Saga Legends line currently on shelves, but I haven't seen a straight trooper in a while.

The last wave of Legacy figures has a regular trooper plus both Han and Luke with the Stormie helmets, but they seem to be sold out everywhere now.

All the 2008-2009 figures came in the white carded packaging but were actually 3 different lines. They were:

1. Clone Wars - Based on the anime movie and TV series

The Legacy Collection was split into these two series.

2. Droid Factory - This was the build a droid series. The figures in the series are of the largest variety. From the movies, novels, comic books, video games, etc.

3. SAGA Legends - Are predominately characters from the 6 movies. Instead of the build a droid concept, this series focuses on added accessories and weaponry.

For summer 2009 until a date TBD, the same 3 series are still continuing but they will be in different packaging.

This time around the new packaging will all have diecut card as well as a red Star Wars Logo. Other than the packaging being marked what line the action figure is from, this is another way to determine what series it is.

Clone Wars - Red trim on top and bottom of card.

SAGA Legends - Orange (Desert) trim on top and bottom of card.

Droid Factory - Black trim on top and bottom of card.

Hope this helps!

About the packaging, interesting. That's very informative, thanks!

Is there a place with pics of figures? Similar to www.comicfigs.net or something like www.tfu.info (currently down) for Star Wars? I'm curious to see what some of those other troopers look like.

Just to add the Saga Legends line is always re-released figures(some which have been re-released as many as three or four times already with different packaging).

The idea being that they are perfect for the new collectors and focus on the most popular characters/molds from the other lines.

The Droid Factory guys are always new molds/characters.

There are also various different multipacks to collect as well. The most prominate of these are the Expanded Universe(EU) Comic Two Packs which focus on characters as they have appeared in either Marvel or Darkhorse over the years. These are currently my favorites as they focus on EU figures I don't already have 10 versions of:p

Add to that the Battle Packs, which ussually contain three or four figures and the exclusive packs that are usually upwards of five or six figures.

Actually the Legacy: Joker Squadren pack would be a great source for old school looking Storm Troopers as well. Although based on the Legacy Comic Series(set about 125 years after Return of the Jedi) they have a very 1977 look.:)

Above is the link to the detailed review I posted up a while back.:)

www.rebelscum.com (http://www.rebelscum.com) is your best bet for finding the in package images your looking for.

Awesome, thanks for all the info guys. I think I'll pick up some clone wars figures. I've been rewatching the first series and I forgot how cool it was. I did however just miss a sale, so I think I might wait for another. There seems to plenty of sales at TRU lately on SW figures.

PS: when it comes to the clone troopers like Commander Cody, or Rex, or the generic ones, what rank corresponds with each color? (eg: red, yellow, blue, etc).

So I picked up my first ever Star Wars Clone Wars figure. Plo Koon. He's freaking awesome. I would have liked some knee articulation, but otherwise he's great. I'll probably pick some more up so long as they're all this great in quality.

Maybe try the Star Wars Wiki for those color ranks. I don't know if there is any significance to them. Cody is yellow, but so are the Clone pilots.

Some of the 30th Anniversary figures did come with stands. I think now they don't include stands since they're just trying to be cheap.

I've heard all kinds of takes on this from Hasbro..."People prefer the collectors coins"....."People prefer the Build A droid"......."Stands are not cost effective"....so on.

Overall I suspect its cheapskatedness. I did love the stands that accompanied the 30th Anniversary figs.

PS: when it comes to the clone troopers like Commander Cody, or Rex, or the generic ones, what rank corresponds with each color? (eg: red, yellow, blue, etc).

In the start of the Clone Wars, rank of the troopers was determined by color worn on their helmet, arm and shoulder armor except for major legions like the 501st and some commanders like Commander (http://www.actionfigurenews.ca/wiki/Clone_trooper_commander) Fox (http://www.actionfigurenews.ca/wiki/CC-1010) and Captain (http://www.actionfigurenews.ca/wiki/Clone_trooper_captain) Rex (http://www.actionfigurenews.ca/wiki/CC-7567).

White—Private (http://www.actionfigurenews.ca/wiki/Private) (standard trooper).
Olive green—Sergeant (http://www.actionfigurenews.ca/wiki/Clone_trooper_sergeant); commanded squads (http://www.actionfigurenews.ca/wiki/Squad) made up of nine troops.
Blue—Lieutenant (http://www.actionfigurenews.ca/wiki/Clone_trooper_lieutenant); commanded platoons (http://www.actionfigurenews.ca/wiki/Platoon) made up of four squads (36 troops).
Red—Captain (http://www.actionfigurenews.ca/wiki/Clone_trooper_captain); commanded companies (http://www.actionfigurenews.ca/wiki/Company) made up of four platoons (144 troops).
Yellow—Commander (http://www.actionfigurenews.ca/wiki/Clone_trooper_commander); commanded regiments (http://www.actionfigurenews.ca/wiki/Regiment) made up of four battalions (2,304 troops). Many of these commanders were grown with more capacity for independent thought than their troops, and were sometimes known by names rather than numbers. They also received training from the ARC trooper Alpha-17 (http://www.actionfigurenews.ca/wiki/Alpha-17). Notable clone commanders included Cody (http://www.actionfigurenews.ca/wiki/CC-2224), Bly (http://www.actionfigurenews.ca/wiki/CC-5052), Gree (http://www.actionfigurenews.ca/wiki/CC-1004), Bacara (http://www.actionfigurenews.ca/wiki/CC-1138), Appo (http://www.actionfigurenews.ca/wiki/CC-1119), Neyo (http://www.actionfigurenews.ca/wiki/CC-8826), Thire (http://www.actionfigurenews.ca/wiki/Thire), Keller (http://www.actionfigurenews.ca/wiki/Keller_(clone_commander)), and Salvo (http://www.actionfigurenews.ca/wiki/Salvo)
With the development and distribution of Phase II clone trooper armor (http://www.actionfigurenews.ca/wiki/Phase_II_clone_trooper_armor), clone troopers no longer used color markings to denote rank. Instead, color patterns on troop armor signified legion designation and position.
Troopers with Phase II armor, or at least, Commander Cody, also wore colored stripes along their arms indicating the campaigns they served in.

I wish they still came with stands, teh floor boards in my appartment are shotty, and a miss step or a jumping daughter and send my figures tumbling to teh ground.

Random question guys, I just noticed the Clone Scuba Trooper I bought a month ago has a foil SW logo instead of a regular printed one. On the back it looks just like any other generic Canadian card. Does anyone know why it's like that? Is it a first day of issue that didn't get a sticker or something (I recently got a CW Battle Droid, first day of issue with a foil SW logo on the card front)?

From RS's pics it looks like it doesn't have a foil logo. http://www.rebelscum.com/photo.asp?image=/TLC/Basic/10Scuba/IMG_9639.jpg

Just curious :)
