Hasbro is releasing the previously Build A Figure Monster Venom (see our gallery here, awesome piece (https://news.toyark.com/2018/09/01/monster-venom-build-a-figure-marvel-legends-venom-wave-gallery-315084)) as a stand alone release. Pre-Orders have gone up at several sponsors showing the figure with a more traditional Venom logo and some hand paint blocking. It’s price is $29.99 and is due in March 2020. There are rumblings some other Build A Figures could be making a stand alone appearance, stay tuned for details! Honestly, not sure how I feel about this trend of BAF figures getting nicer single carded releases. I bought the Monster Venom wave primarily to build that figure, now here it is in a better deco without the lofty completion price tag. If anything, this is making me not want to track down the figures that I‘m not overly excited for. Why should I pick up Rock Python and Union Jack to complete Hulk if they’re going to maybe release him separately in a few months? I don’t know. Just seems shady.

I totally agree with you! I bought the previous Monster Venom for $100+ off of E-Bay because:
(I) I didn't want any of the Venom wave figures apart from Scream and the Eddie Brock head; and
(2) I thought this was the only opportunity to get this Big Figure.

I'm going through the same debate now with the Kingpin Big Figure: Should I buy it on E-Bay alone, or wait it out and see if it gets a single release.

The most AGGRAVATING part for me is that as a commercial company, Hasbro should WANT to maximize sales and profits. If it can be proven that the Big Figs sold alone will have more sales at full price than forcing consumers to buy 6 average figures (some of which will become shelf-warmers and remain unsold even at 50% off), why not go for single sales? I think the Build-A-Figure should be treated as a bonus; Not a mandatory sales driver.

That's exactly it though. They want you to buy it twice. They will never hint at the fact that they are going to release the baf separately down the line. This forces people to buy the entire wave. It is indeed a shady practice, but, at the end of the day, they only care about their profit.

Rumour is that there will be a Kingpin BAF re-release at some point - possibly end of this year, but in a black suit.

They have done this a lot now and to make it worse they usually improve it.

Examples:
-Groot Evolution release versus BAF
-New Venom
-Thanos Comic Book
-Thanos Infinity War MCU
-Juggernaut
-Ares
-Hulkbuster

What else am I missing? That’s a lot of BAFs that have been rereleased now.

Giant man

That’s right! MCU Giant Man too.

What else did we miss? That’s already a lot of BAFs.

Though I generally agree with this sentiment resenting BAF re-releases, this new paint job on Monster Venom is kinda appealing to me. Might make an exception and get this, if I see it in the wild.

Sandman BAF vs SDCC
Abomination BAF vs SDCC
Dormammu BAF vs SDCC
Ultron BAF vs 10thAnni

Well damn. That is a lot of BAFs that were releasing individually at a later date.

I guess it’s kind of a “early adopter” price at this point. Pay extra to get it now or wait for the eventual single release.
