Up-And-Coming Clone Wars Figures

Well, the latest wave of Clone Wars figures have finally found themselves here in Canada, but already we have pictures of what seem to be some up-and-coming new Hasbro offerings for their Clone Wars line at some point this year.

First up, we have what appear to be Clone Troopers Gus, Slick and Chopper from a future release Hidden Enemy Battle Pack based on the Clone Wars episode of the same name...

Next up, Senate Commando Captain Jayfon. He was present on the landing platform when Cad Bane and his team of bounty hunter's showed up at the beginning of the Season 1 finale Hostage Crisis. Jayfon fought bravely, but was offed easily by the vile Duros bounty hunter...

Well it isn't the Vintage-style Slave I I was hoping for, it seems The Clone Wars line will be getting a version of the deadliest ship in the galaxy. :D

The Rise of Boba Fett Ultmate Battle Pack, which has supposedly began showing up in the US (retailing for $99.99), includes an all-new, larger Slave I, Boba Fett, Bossk, Mace Windu, R8-B7, Anakin Skywalker and Mace Windu's Jedi Starfighter.

Am I the only Fett fan playing some serious air guitar in excitment right now? :D

Can I just say I think this Clone Wars toyline is going to make me a Star Wars Compeltist again? :D I know I want to get the movie style figures for the sake of having one ultimate representation of all of the main players in Live Action Style or LAS if you prefer.

But as far as the Clone Wars goes I could see myself picking up all the single carded figs from the past two years, possibly a few vehicles and even some of those rare hard to find figures and battle pack things.

The style is just that fun to look at and I think I could see my Star Wars collection being devoted to Vintage Style and Clone Wars, with probably more Clone Wars than Vintage Style figures at this point.

Now all I got to do is scrape up some funds. But wait there's RotF to complete still and RoC and MU and IM2 and, and... I collect too many toylines, but the real problem is that I focus on one at a time so I'm always behind. :( I need a magical buy one get one free card for every time I go shopping... Or in the case of CW BOGOF Or in otherwords Buy One Get Over Five Free. LOL

Some new Deluxe figure images surfaced today, that of ARF Scout Boil (with one of the coolest looking decos ever!) and a Tactical Droid!

According to the info I recieved, Boil will come with a repainted AT-RT and the Tactical Droid with an armored Scout Tank!

I've actually seen the tactical droid and mini-tank in stores. It's the same mini-tank that came with a battle droid in wave 1. I don't even think it's been repainted.

Hello guys-in-the-know!

Can anyone tell me if the new Clone Wars packaging figures out now has new articulation on some of the older characters, or is it just re-releases of exisiting figures?

Specifically looking at the articulation on the new Mace Windu and Kit Fisto figures, these guys have new ankles as well as all the rest, and it is the best so far imho, and I would like to see an Obi-Wan with soft goods in the same articulation.

^^ The majority are older, repackaged, slightly repainted re-releases of older figures, some, believe it or not, as far back as the 2008 Clone Wars movie line. Although some in the newer lines, such as Mace Windu, Kit Fisto and the MegnaGuard, are newly retooled, better painted and articulated versions of the original figures.

There are rumors circulating the action figure world today stating that Hasbro is planning releases of the following characters for their popular Star Wars: Clone Wars series of toys:

Seripas : The tiny bounty hunter with the mechanical suit from Season 2, a member of Sugi's band of bounty hunters.

El-Les : A colleuge of Srgt. Bric, who helped trained clones on Kamino. One of the only ones to have faith in Domino Squad. From the Season 3 opener Clone Cadets.

Savage Oppress : Massive Zebrek warrior we saw in a few Season 3 teaser trailers.

More fan-favorite Jedi : Duh! :p

and of course...more clones! : Double-Duh! :p

Now, bare in mind, these are only rumors thus far, so take these with a grain of salt. ;)

According to a Q&A conducted by Yakface.com, it seems Clone Commander Jet has been delayed until Spring due to production issues.

Here is the exerpt from the session:

Q: What has happened with Clone Wars Commander Jet? We have seen carded pictures of the rest of the figures in the wave, yet none of him. Also, the pre-orders online do not show him in the case assortment for Wave 5 or 6. Is he going to be delayed like the Cad Bane in Disguise was?

A: We had production issues with Commander Jet, and he had to be bumped from the Fall waves. We're looking at slotting him back into the Spring at this point.

I recently got the latest clone wars wave from ebay, and they are pretty sweet!
Quinlan Vos is an awesome figure, with 1 major handicap, It's true that he is super articulated but his right shoulder
(which is covered by his armor and has his trademark logo on it) is ball jointed but because of the shoulderpad it's rendered completely useless, it's almost brought down to the level of a normal swivel joint. (perhaps with some delicate retooling with a scalpel knife I can bring him to his fully articulated glory...)
Too bad and very illogical of hasbro as they obviously went through the trouble of giving him ball joints...

Hasbro has made many weird decisions regarding articulation, Quinlan Vos only appeared in 1 episode and gets a super articulated figure, we never got a super articulated Obi Wan or Anakin?!
From what I can make out in the pics of the new upcoming wave (january) the revamped Obi Wan without armor still won't be super articulated, i don't get it.... :-(

Actually we have. Hasbro has put them in less obvious places. The Obi-Wan's that have come with the speeder bikes are super articulated. As is the Dooku with the speeder. Space suit Anakin is articulated.

I actually bought speeder bike Dooku because of the articulation, aside from that particular Dooku, speeder bike Obi Wan has nice articulation and cloth garments instead of plastic but he has no balljointed hips.
The same goes for space suit aAnakin, which is a very nice figure, but his articulation is somewhat limited because of his plastic garments.
His ball jointed torso was a great step forward however... which Quinlan Vos unfortunately lacks.
Also the ankle joints which can move from side to side are very rare within the clone wars line
(so far only Vos and the 2nd Windu have had them)
My real point to all of this is; Hasbro makes strange choices.
I can understand that more articulation can be costly, but it's what kids and collectors want, no?
A beautiful example is the first clone trooper figure, they had great joints, the ARF toopers were completely awesome... until commander Stone came along.

I truly hope that figures such as the 2nd Mace Windu and Quinlan Vos will become the new standard for all upcoming figures. And i can only pray that Savage Opress (of which I am quite certain he will be released) and other upcoming figures will be "superarticulated" without any limitations like plastic garments...
Don't get me wrong, I am a fierce collector and fan of the Clone Wars line, but if they would be consistent in their articulation, it would become one of the best toy lines ever created. Luckily the Vintage collection is setting the tone by releasing more and more ball jointed hip figures!

Hasbro makes these choices based on what they can fit into the design. The Clone Wars is very stylised and they try first and foremost to retain that style. (because really that's the whole point of the line)

For example, the ankle thing. You can't do that for Anakin because his feet are too flat. A rocker joint would'nt fit in there without making them look too big, so he gets regular pivots. That's also why so few figures have ball jointed hips in the line. The joints make the hips too thick. Just look at the ARF trooper and it's messed-up hips. If they absolutely had to they could engineer the articulation, but they also have to be durable and that would mean changing the plastics used to some higher quality, which would cost more and they'd have to charge more. (and people wouldn't buy as many SW figures) Unlike the realistic figure which are naturally thicker.

On the subject of garments, I, too wish Anakin had a cloth skirt (he'd be the perfect Anakin figure if he did) but since he doesn't come with a vehicle he doesn't get one. (That's why Obi Wan does. He and Dooku are desigend to sit for long periods of time where plastic skirt would warp)

Rest assured, Hasbro does not make these dicisions lightly. We can only hope that as figure sales go up and better engineering techniques become available they can start turning out more "super articulated" figures.

Personally, I don't feel the CW "needs" ball hips, but if they come along I certainly won't complain.

I admit I'm not a fan of the ball jointed hips myself. Though I have the three Mandalorians(Pre Vizsla, Speeder Mando & Mando Warrior) with the ball jointed hips I find them visually not as nice as the more basic design.

I think the Mandos do it the best, since their legs are cylindrical (sp?) and at least look better when moved, (as long as you don't notice the holsters on their asses lol) unlike the ARF Trooper that just looks like he broke his own legs to sit.

I'm still going to get Windu (and Fisto when I find them for not stupid expensive) because they look great. Shaak Ti and Embo are a great example of awesome figures that don't need ball jointed hips. My God I wish they would get here already!

I didn't pick up the Embo and Vos waves at the toy show because I figured they'd be on-shelf at retail soon for cheaper. Of course, I was also holding out faint hope that they'd come out while TRU had the figures on sale.

Nothing really all that special with this one, he's basically a slightly modified green deco Commander Cody, but I do like the paint scheme here and will probably be picking this one up next time I head down to the States or over evil-bay. :p

Our next Clone Wars pictoral update comes in the form of Bounty Hunter El-Les. Fan's will recognize this awesome character from the Season 3 opener of the Clone Wars - Cadets.

El-Les comes complete with a blaster rifle, blaster pistol, working holster and the same chance cube and game card pieces needed for the new Star Wars battle matt game!

Our latest Clone Wars 2011 pictoral update is of Jedi Barriss Offee, who includes a beautiful soft-goods cloak, her lightsaber and the ever popular Geonosian Brain Worms from Season 2's Landing at Point Rain story arc that started off on Geonosis! It's a beautiful figure that shows Hasbro really knows how to make some awesome female Jedi figures for their Clone Wars line!

Got some real nice Clone Wars figure updates today thanks to our friends over at Rebel Scum! Today's updates give us the goods from Wave 8 of the popular Clone Wars toyline and feature 2 upgraded figures, a repainted droid, and an all-new clone trooper...all brought to life in the animated style! So sit back and enjoy! And thanks to Rebel Scum for the awesome shots! :cool:

Obi-Wan Kenobi - The Jedi Master gets an all-new updated figure which reflects this new look in Season 3. While he still has the armored gauntlets as before, the rest of his Jedi outfit, the new design is closer to how he appeared in Revenge of the Sith.

This figure is actually a bit of a step backwards. Since there have been a few upgrades in this line recently, with added articulation and soft goods, it's a bit odd to see such a major character lacking these features. Not that this detracts in any way the visual of the figure. It's a spot-on likeness to how Obi-Wan looks in the series. Obi-Wan comes with his trusty lightsaber, ready to face off against villains old and new.

Clone Trooper Hevy (Training Armor) - The highlight of this wave is the new Clone Trooper Training Armor for Hevy, a popular clone character. This armor was seen in the season 3 premiere episode, where we flashed back to Domino Squad's early days training on Kamino under the under the direction of Sgt. Bric.

The articulation on the figure is less than previous clones, although consistent with many of the latest designs: swivel waist and no ankles. Not that each and every figure needs to have ankles, mind you...but I know fans often complain about these things. The helmet is something of a challenge to fit comfortably on Hevy's head, since he has the buzz-cut hairstyle. But it does fit, and snugly at that.

The deco is clean, which is consistent with what's been done lately, although a "dirty" wash would be VERY appreciated on this figure, since there's a lot of blasting going on in the training arena, so there should be some "carbon scoring" here. Still, the deco that is here is nicely done, with toned down colors and a nice application on the cannon.

Cad Bane (& TODO 360) - The popular bounty hunter from the show gets his third action figure treatment, and there have been a number of upgrades made along the way! Cad now has knee articulation (again, not ankles...I'm seeing a pattern here), and the top part of his coat is removable.

Cad's considerably taller than the previous version, and he has a brand-new head sculpt, which actually looks a lot more realistic than animated style.

As an added bonus, Cad Bane comes complete with his trusty robot sidekick, TODO 360. TODO has a ball-jointed neck, and well...that's it really. But the little droid also sports a cool deco, and even if he's nothing more than an accessory, it's great to have him join the line.

R7-A7 - Finally, here's Ahsoka Tano's droid she uses when flying her Jedi Starfighter during the Battle of Ryloth. This is another astromech droid repaint using the "Goldie" body, which is what you'd expect.

Once again, the deco is very subdued, which makes for a very cool-looking figure. There are no extra accessories, other than the removable middle leg and the flip-open panels.

Toy Fair 2011 had some awesome figures up for preview for us Clone Wars fans. Deluxe, single carded, Battle Packs, each offering something seemingly better than the next! It looks like there are a trio of "new" 3-packs coming out for The Clone Wars. These have been spotted in the UK already, and although these photos show a tri-logo packaging, they have also been found in English-only graphics as well. The figures appear to be 100% repacks. Not much else is known right now, but I'll keep everyone posted as more info unfolds.

Some news today from Hasbro regarding the delay of the Sargent Bric and Battle Matt set came in today via Rebelscum.com. According to the site,

If you sent in your order for the Sgt. Bric & Battle Mat mailaway offer towards the end of the timeframe (like me), then you should keep an eye out for a postcard in the mail from Hasbro. It seems that there were more orders than originally planned for, so the set will not ship until July 17, 2011.

Sandtroopers.com passed on some shots of two new Clone Wars Battle Packs, which should be finding their way to store shelves some time soon.

However, these two sets, Capture of the Droids and Stop the Zillo Beast, are filled with repackaged figures we've seen many times before since the launch of this line in 2008.

Our friends over at Jedi Defender were kind enough to pass on some great loose shots of the up-coming Cad Bane in Clone Armor figure from the Cad Bane's Escape battle pack.

The figure is chalked full of nice details, including a removable forearm gauntlet.

The Cad Bane's Escape set is slated for release later this year!

Check out the latest Clone Wars Class 1 Vehicle offering from Hasbro - The Y-Wing Scout Bomber, it can hold a single pilot figure (the set includes Clone Pilot Warthog) and an astromech droid, which is not included.

Actually, I have this Rex figure and it's really good! Easily the best Rex figure released so far! I love the soft kama and improved articulation, the only thing that really bugs me, and it's minor at best, is the fact that the head of Rex' helmet ariel isn't colored black like it's supposed to be. Hasbro left it white for some reason. Still, best Rex figure to date. I recommend it, highly!

Good to know! I just picked up the y-bomber scout and the fig that is included, is probably one of the best articulated! If he could move his ankles he'd be a 10 out of 10!!! I have him doing the splits as we speak!

While we've seen Aayla, Ahsoka, Obi-Wan and the recolored Super Battle Droid, which are all passes to me, the newly revealed Commander Wolfe, Captain Rex and Boss (which was revealed earlier this year) all look great!

Is the Cad Bane in 2012 Wave One a re-pack of the articulated ankle version that comes with TODO-360 or the first run figure without ankle articulation?

According to Rebelscum it is the one with TODO, but when I was looking at the figures on the shelf I couldn't really tell.

If so I know where I'm headed tomorrow, back to TRU to take advantage of the 40% off sale for Cad Bane, I really wanted that articulate ankle version for my Clone Wars collection.

In other news, half an hour to go before we get to see another new episode. I'm stoked.

Trust Aayla to be the one I'm looking for the most due to Hot Ass Jedi Babe syndrome. LOL Well, I'll go back to TRU and take a really close look at that Cad Bane. If it is TODO-360 version I'll snatch him up for sure, but if not I'll ignore him as I do all those blue carded CW13 Cad Banes, I just can't stand having such a prominent character like him without the articulated ankles or his little droid partner.
