That the headline for this Wall street journal article. Target's Drive Into Canada Could Involve 200 Stores
http://online.wsj.com/article/BT-CO-20101006-710619.html

"It would represent a new venue for us" because it would position Target somewhere below Hudson's Bay's upscale The Bay, but above its Zellers chain and Wal-Mart's Canadian operations"

This could be great news for collectors but will it be the demise of zellers?

Maybe not the end of Zellers. If that report is accurate. It could just end up like K-mart in the US. And only get the K-mart exclusives. :p On the upside 200 stores is a nation wide operation, downside is 10 years to that target (:p) number. So those of us who don't live in Ontario may be without Target exclusives for years if this comes to be.

I'll adopt a wait and see position.

Interesting. Like mentioned above it would most likely mean the end of Hasbro Target exclusives being carried by Zellers, but it could mean that Mattel Target exclusives will finally see release here.

As long as target brings their pricing, clearance pricing and exclusives then im all for it.

But if Zellers goes outta business then i hope target at least takes their physical locations so I can still have something to go to on my lunch breaks. The more the merrier i say though!

Wow.. I'm sure the first store will be near or in Toronto somewhere, but hope they hit the bigger cities after that. I can't wait to get one here in Ottawa. I love going to Target, usually drive the 2 hrs to Watertown at least once a month.

That's a trade I'd be willing to take. Hopefully the selection would be just as good as in the states. Every Target I''ve been to has been better than anything up here for toys.

I'm sure the first store would be in Ontario, but I hope that at least one store will open in the Vancouver area. Preferrably in Metrotown or the Mount Pleasant area. :p

If they carry it. If it's still being sold by the time they make it to your area.

Being that Target is centered and homebased in Minnesota, that might make Winnipeg a likely location as any for stores to open quickly.

In any case, unless the presence of a new retailer expands Hasbro and Mattels desire to distribute product to Canada(ei Tri-logo packaging and whatnot), this likely won't change much.

I'm not sure if this is good or bad in the grand scheme of things.
