The Dark Knight Rises is the title of the third Nolan Batman flick!!!! And, despite what we once thought, The Riddler will not be the film's villain...

I don't like the title at all. Just very unimaginative. But I am happy Riddler isn't the villain, since I think he and the Joker are cut from a similar cloth.

Lots of DC Universe movie news today, most surrounding the newly named The Dark Knight Rises...

1) Seems like Tom Hardy, who was cast in a role for The Dark Knight Rises earlier this month, may be playing Detective Harvey Bullock. At least that is what comicbookmovie.com is reporting from IMDB....

http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/rorschachsrants/news/?a=24520

2) Director Chris Nolan discusses why the third Caped Crusader film will be shot in IMAX and not the overly popular 3D...

http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/joshw24/news/?a=24501

3) Writer Marc Guggenheim says the Flash movie will be more like 3 movies in one....

http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/rorschachsrants/news/?a=24485

4) Dollhouse actress Eliza Dushku addresses the rumors placing her in the lead role for both the big and small screen Wonder Woman adaptions....

Got some stills from Green Lantern thanks to Entertainment Weekly! Enjoy!

Also, for all you Batman fans out there, not sure how true this is, but comicbookmovie.com has an article from someone who claims to know a good friend who revealed that Charlize Theron has been approached to play Gotham Detective Sarah Essen and Kacie Thomas and Vera Farmiga have auditioned for the character role of Julie Madison.

Again, not sure how true this is, but you can read it here regardless:

I still want to read Green Lantern: Secret Origins before I see this one, but I can't wait to see this movie! :D

Is Clayface going to be the villain in The Dark Knight Rises? io9.com seems to think so as they were tipped off recently that it seems Basil Karlo will be the next villain to square off against the Dark Knight.

According to the website, producers of "The Dark Knight Rises" have begun holding auditions for the part of Julie Madison (actresses listed as having auditioned include Kacie Thomas and Vera Farmiga). The website also makes a Clayface connection by pointing out that, while the character has ties to Batman, her comic book history has the young woman starring in the remake of a fictional classic horror movie, 'The Terror,' which previously starred Basil Karlo.

Aaron Eckhart doesn't expect to reprise his role as Harvey Dent in The Dark Knight Rises. Okay, it's not really news, we've known this for quite some time now, but recently Eckhart spoke with ShowbizSpy and was quoted as saying: I just don’t have any idea. I really don’t know and if Chris gives me a call, I’ll come but I don’t anticipate a call.”

Again, not really news, but this latest interview seems to cap off any possibility of Two-Face showing up in Nolan's Batman threequil.

Agreed, Clayface wouldn't fit into the real-life feel of Nolan's Bat-verse, but I've got to say....it's one villian I think is dying for the movie-verse treatment! :D

And in movie news today, director Zack Snyder says: "My Superman Will be Different!"

I really, really hope they don't do Superman's early years. Everyone knows the back story. And as much of a fan of Superman I am (he's my favorite character of all time), I am bored to death of his back story. I want Superman to smash shit. Make things go boom. The best part of Superman Returns was the airplane sequence.

I'm still on the fence about the GL film. I like the look of Sinestro and Oa. But I'm not really digging the way Hal's mask looks.

They could have easily painted it on with some prosthetic to make a better looking mask instead of CGI. Unless that is prosthetic than yikes.

I'll have to wait to see more trailers, and hear more dialogue before making a final judgment

At a press conferance for the release of his latest film Inception on Blu-Ray and DVD, director Christopher Nolan confirmed Tom Hardy would be playing a major role in The Dark Knight Rises and further debunks the return of the Joker in the next Batman film.

But he wouldn’t say what the story’s about or who the villain is, other than to confirm that Inception’s Tom Hardy will play "a key role, not saying good or bad," and to shoot down reports that he’ll resurrect The Joker by including unused footage of Heath Ledger’s performance in the previous chapter. "That’s all wrong," said the writer-director.

And for you Man of Steel fans out there, Composer Hans Zimmer will be scoring the Superman reboot.

"It’s a hard one, but I followed one of the most iconic things on Batman with Chris as well, and it’s the same thing. You are allowed to reinvent, but you have to try to be as good or at least as iconic and it has to resonate and it has to become a part of the zeitgeist. That’s the job. On Gladiator I remember people always talking about Spartacus and I kept telling them, ‘When you saw Spartacus and how it affected it you, that’s how I want a modern audience to be affected by what we do now.’ So I think ultimately you’re supposed to reinvent."

Regarding Dark Night Rises: I think that if sufficient and useful footage of Heath Ledger's Joker, does indeed exist, and it fits in to the movie without being gratuitous, that they would use it. They'll deny it until all the t's are crossed incase it doesn't happen. Plus it would be a big spoiler to announce something like that at this point.

Check out this forward taken from the newly released Superman: Secret Origin writen by David Goyer that hints at the storyline for the new Superman film reboot....

"There is a heart breaking moment halfway through the first chapter in which young Clark is told the truth about his heritage. He races out into the night, sobbing, stumbling through the cornfields. Eventually, his foster father, Jonathan, finds him."

'I don't want to be someone else,' says Clark. 'I don't want to be different. I want to be Clark Kent.'

[And here's the kicker...]

'I want to be your son'

"Right there in that moment, Geoff contextualized Superman in a way that I'm not sure has ever really been done before. I had an 'aha' experience when I read that. For the first time I was able to grasp how lonely Clark must have been when he was growing up. And what a sacrifice Clark must continually make by being Superman."

"As I write this, I am midway through my first draft of a new Superman screenplay. It's a task that has stymied many talented fimmakers in the years since Donner's film. And for all I know, it will end up stymying me as well."

"But I've got one advantage that the screenwriters who came before me didn't have-- and that's access to all the wonderful Superman stories written by Geoff Johns-- first and foremost being the SECRET ORIGIN issues reprinted in the very volume you are now holding."

I don't understand how having Batman and Superman in the same universe is not a good idea. Why have 2 iconic characters that frequently team up (i.e. Superman/Batman comic), separate from each other.

Marvel has a good thing going with continuity and an overall presence between properties (Iron Man/Thor/Captain America/ Avengers), why can't Warner Bros. do the same. At least set it up for the Justice League movie which is bound to come out sooner or later

Is this a matter of Nolan just not wanting Batman to be involved in other superhero team ups while he is still in creative control? I thought I read that somewhere. I'm sure once he's done with the films, we'll see a Superman/Batman movie.

At any rate, I hope Nolan isn't too bogged down by work on both films, cause I would hate to see Batman or Superman or both suffer from the extra workload. I know he's not directing Superman, but it still is a lot of work to produce.

LOL, you beat me to the punch! :D This is pretty cool to hear, Hathaway would make a pretty cute Catwoman and Hardy as Bane is intriguing to say the least.

Exerpts from the Press Release:

Warner Bros. Pictures announced today that Anne Hathaway has been cast as Selina Kyle in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises. She will be starring alongside Christian Bale, who returns in the title role of Bruce Wayne/Batman. Christopher Nolan stated, "I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Anne Hathaway, who will be a fantastic addition to our ensemble as we complete our story."

In addition, Tom Hardy has been set to play Bane. Nolan said, "I am delighted to be working with Tom again and excited to watch him bring to life our new interpretation of one of Batman’s most formidable enemies." Nolan will direct the film from a screenplay he wrote with Jonathan Nolan, from a story by Christopher Nolan and David S. Goyer. Nolan will also produce the film with his longtime producing partner, Emma Thomas, and Charles Roven. The Dark Knight Rises is slated for release on July 20, 2012. The film will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company

And here is a video report from SPLASH! regarding the news of Hathaway dawning the catsuit! :D

According to the Edmonton Journal, it seems an inside source claims director Zack Snyder may be filming part of his Superman reboot in Alberta, Canada. Here is a snip-it from the article...

An industry insider told the Herald that this likely means Superman: Man of Steel, director Zack Snyder's big-budget reboot, will have a unit shoot here. Another source confirmed that producers behind Man of Steel have been looking at Alberta, but said nothing has been confirmed.

"I would expect there will be an announcement in the next 60 days about a significant picture, a blockbuster to be shot in Alberta," says Blackett, "There might be one that is a $200 million, but it's probably more like a $35-million Alberta spend. The details are fairly intricate right now. That's a big-budget movie for us. The success of Inception and all the good comments made by the crew and actors and director go a long way. That is a movie that made a lot of money."

Yeah, she's a bit soft too, though that can be rectified with working out more. WW needs that balanced between having a strong presence and curves, but not too muscular.

Liam Neeson will not be returning as Ra's Al Ghul In The Dark Knight Rises according to a report over at IGN Movies which stated the following:

His response was that he "definitely" won't be in the next film and hasn't even been approached about it, but he'd maybe kick around the idea of returning as Ra's down the line sometime. We definitely got the vibe that Batman Begins was just a gig and didn't mean all that much to him. In fact, he picked Superman as his favorite superhero when asked -- he said Batman was too gloomy.

Oh, and he'll be filming Clash of the Titans 2 when Dark Knight Rises shoots anyway.

Not all that surprising if you ask me, sure Ra's has a history of being pretty much immortal, but the concept of Lazerus Pits wouldn't work in the universe Nolan has made for his Batman trilogy, if you ask me.

Thanks to CBM and IGN Movies for the news! ;)

Um, No no no no to Lohan. It's one thing to have faith in Nolan for Hathaway as Catwoman, but Lohan? Unless she's playing a burnt corpse, I don't want any part of her near anything remotely related to my beloved superheroes!

And as for Neeson and Ra's Al Ghul, the actual resurrection of Neeson wouldn't work at all for the Nolanverse. However, the character resurfacing is a different matter altogether. In Begins, it was implied (or explicitely said. I can't remember now) that Ra's Al Ghul was more than a person, it was this entity or belief that lives on and presumably would be resurrected in different physical forms as someone new takes up the mantle when the current Ra's dies. So in essense, the ressurect and lazeraus pit would be metophorical, and hence still work in the Nolanverse.

At least that's what I got out of it.

A news article stated today that Zack Snyder's Superman reboot is currently suffering some some major third act issues right now. The article posted up on CBM stated the following:

One theory is that Warner Bros. needs Snyder to bear down on Superman stat: Insiders say the closely-guarded script for Superman suffers from major third-act problems, and the studio faces a ticking clock on that franchise, legally speaking; if a Superman film isn’t in production by 2013, Warner Bros. loses the rights to the entire Superman franchise and would have to re-license it from its original creators.

Hopefully, things will be sorted out soon!

Just moments ago, actress Liz Hurley's character in the Wonder Woman TV pilot was revealed...

Deadline now report that the actress wil guest star in the pilot as Veronica Cale, who they describe as: "the beautiful, highly educated head of one of the biggest pharmaceutical companies in the country who is afflicted with serious deep-seated Wonder Woman envy."

They also reveal that former Cold Case star Tracie Thoms will play Etta, Wonder Woman's always cheerful personal assistant.

For those who don't know, Veronica Cale, is a pharmaceutical industrialist character created by Greg Rucka in the comic book to be a sort of “Lex Luthor for Wonder Woman.”

Collider recently posted an interview snip-it with Gary Oldmen, who took a few moments to praise The Dark Knight Rises while on the set of his new movie, Red Riding Hood...

http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/MarvelFreshman/news/?a=31376

Regardless of what was posted a month back about Liam Neeson not wanting to come back for another Batman flick, the actor recently shot down those rumors, stating the following:

That rumour is totally not true. In the comic books, Ra’s Al Ghul goes into a life bath of some sort and immerses himself to become immortal; So that’s probably where that comes from.

“But no-one’s approached me with an offer. I’d like to if it happens.”

Interesting, isn't it?

I am interested in seeing what Catwoman would look like, but I don't think it'll be anything "out there." I figure it'll look similar to Wayne's pre-Batman suit he wore in Begins. Basically a female cat burgler version. Imagine it except without all the straps and muscles, but with boobs obviously:

Well, less than 24-hours since the story was posted here, Entertainment Weekly is claiming Mr. Levitt will not be playing Alberto Falcone in the next Batman flick...

Said EW: Joseph Gordon-Levitt, long-rumored to be joining his Inception brethren in The Dark Knight Rises, will appear in director Christopher Nolan’s third Batman film. But a source close to the situation says that recent reports that Gordon-Levitt will play Alberto Falcone (a.k.a. the Holiday Killer) — the son of former mob kingpin, Carmine Falcone (Tom Wilkinson) — are incorrect. So, Batman fans: Begin the re-speculation now!

Well, now it seems it's one source against the other. Let the guessing games begin yet again. Including this one stating he may be playing Black Mask....

It's official Superman fans, Amy Adams (The Fighter, Catch Me if You Can, Smallville) will be playing Lois Lane in Zack Snyder's Man of Steel reboot...

Said the Director to the LA Times:

“There was a big, giant search for Lois,” Snyder said. “For us it was a big thing and obviously a really important role. We did a lot of auditioning but we had this meeting with Amy Adams and after that I just felt she was perfect for it.”

“It goes back to what I’ve said about Superman and making him really understandable for today. What’s important to us is making him relebant and real and making him empathetic to today’s audience so that we understand the decisions he makes. That applies to Lois as well. She has to be in the same universe as him [in tone and substance].”

“Second only to Superman himself, the question of who will play Lois Lane is arguably what fans have been most curious about," Snyder said in a statement Sunday. "So we are excited to announce the casting of Amy Adams, one of the most versatile and respected actresses in films today. Amy has the talent to capture all of the qualities we love about Lois: smart, tough, funny, warm, ambitious and, of course, beautiful."
When questioned on the feeling of developing a film where every casting choice is a global news flash, ”It’s an epic thing, no doubt. But this good news is the cast is shaping up to fit that.”

So there you have it, another major role in the highly anticipated reboot has been filled!

April 22nd will see superheroes Booster Gold (Michael John Carter) and Blue Beetle (Jaimie Reyes) making their Smallville debuts!

TV Guide posted the attatched photo and synposis for the episode:

Get ready, Clark Kent, there's a new golden boy in town. On April 22, Smallville introduces Booster Gold, "a glory-seeking showboat from the future," says Days of Our Lives star Eric Martsolf, who plays the DC Comics cult favorite. "The episode takes place in Booster's very early stages where he's at his conceited best, where he believes he can do whatever he wants. He's gonna stay for the photo op and bask in the glory of his heroic efforts."

Booster's behavior shocks Clark (Tom Welling, who also directed the episode), who is struggling to create a more mild-mannered secret identity to balance out his life as a the Blur. "He wants to stand in the back and not be a glory hound," Martsolf says. "They are completely opposites of one another." Which isn't to say that Clark doesn't learn something from his newest super friend. "The one thing Booster does prove to Clark is that people want to look up to this guy," says Geoff Johns, the hugely popular comic book writer who penned the episode (and previously wrote Smallville's introductions to the Legion of Super-Heroes and the Justice Society of America). "They want to be inspired, and no one's doing it for them." That's not to say that Booster's methods are 100 percent legit. "This guy always shows up at the last second to make a dramatic rescue, which is really suspect," Johns teases.

One of those people he saves is teenager Jaime Reyes, who comic book fans know as another DC superhero, Blue Beetle. The episode shows his origin story: A mysterious high-tech scarab turns him into a super-powered arsenal. Although Booster Gold and Blue Beetle are buddies in the comics, this story will initially show them at odds. "This is the first time the scarab comes on to Jaime, so it creates a bulkier, more dangerous armor," Johns says. "Ultimately he'll gain more control over the scarab and it will become more friendly looking."

In keeping with Booster's history of both punches and punchlines, Johns promises viewers will "laugh out loud... Sometimes you laugh with Booster, sometimes you laugh at him." And with only a few episodes of the series remaining the story ties into Clark's ultimate transformation. "It's rich in comic book history," Martsolf says, "but it's also a vehicle for Clark to start to embrace the marketability of Superman and what he could potentially be."

So, mark April 22nd on your calanders DC fans, this one sounds like a Can't Miss! Thanks to TV Guide and DC Comics for the heads-up!

The highly anticipated finale to Christopher Nolan's Batman film franchise will indeed be filming in Pittsburgh, PA, according to the following article from Post-Gazette.com...

It's official. "The Dark Knight Rises" is coming to Pittsburgh this summer to film the third installment in Christopher Nolan's spectacular franchise starring recent Oscar winner Christian Bale in the title role.

"Pittsburgh is a beautiful city," the London-born director said in a statement. "We have been able to find everything we were looking for here, and I am excited to spend the summer in Pittsburgh with our final installment of Batman."

Mr. Nolan, a favorite of audiences and critics who also made "Batman Begins" and "The Dark Knight" along with "Inception," "The Prestige" and "Memento," met this morning with representatives of Mayor Luke Ravenstahl.

"We are thrilled to be welcoming the Batman film to Pittsburgh, and eager for the economic impact that our city will experience," the mayor said in a statement. "This is another example of the growing film industry in our community, and we will be rolling out the red carpet for them."

Dawn Keezer, director of the Pittsburgh Film Office, said the Warner Bros. production could be here for four to six weeks shooting in Downtown and nearby.

"They're still nailing down actual locations but what they really fell in love with was the diversity of architecture and the gorgeous buildings that we still have in Downtown Pittsburgh and the surrounding areas," she said.

The Dark Knight Rises hits theaters July 20, 2012!

Actor Michael Shannon to star as General Zod in Man of Steel!!!

Check out the article taken from DC Universe: The Source...

BURBANK, CA, April 10, 2011 – Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures announced today that Michael Shannon will star in the role of General Zod in director Zack Snyder’s new Superman film, titled “Man of Steel.”

Snyder stated, “Zod is not only one of Superman’s most formidable enemies, but one of the most significant because he has insights into Superman that others don’t. Michael is a powerful actor who can project both the intelligence and the malice of the character, making him perfect for the role.”

As General Zod, Shannon will go toe-to-toe with Henry Cavill, who plays the new Clark Kent/Superman in the film. The main cast also includes Amy Adams as Lois Lane, and Diane Lane and Kevin Costner as Martha and Jonathan Kent.

Michael Shannon was honored with an Academy Award® nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Sam Mendes’ “Revolutionary Road,” with Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet. Shannon was most recently seen in the award-winning HBO drama series “Boardwalk Empire,” from executive producer Martin Scorsese. He will next be seen in Sony Pictures Classics’, “Take Shelter,” from director/writer Jeff Nichols.

Charles Roven, Emma Thomas, Christopher Nolan and Deborah Snyder are the producers of the film. The screenplay is being written by David S. Goyer based on a story by Goyer and Nolan. Thomas Tull and Lloyd Phillips are serving as executive producers.

“Man of Steel” will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company

Actress Angela Bassett (Jumping the Broom) recently spoke with Cinema Blend about her involvment in this summer's Green Lantern as Dr. Amanda Waller...

Said the actress: Well, I’m not 300 pounds," Bassett started, referring to the way that the character is drawn in the comics. Asking about her portrayal of the character, she said that she's actually "not heavily involved in the first movie," but does hope that she will develop more in the sequels. That said, in describing the character she says that she has "That intellectual, that bright, that no-nonsense, that means business [personality]. [She's] getting it done and in the trenches nothing fazes her."

Many fan's believed that Waller's involvment in Green Lantern may be Warner Brother's way of hinting at cross-overs that would eventually lead to a Justice League movie, however, with Ryan Reynolds recently revealing he won't be involved with the project, the same may be so with Angela Bassett.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Marion Cotillard (Inception) have officially been cast in Christopher Nolan's third Batman flick and their roles have finally been revealed!

From Dateline:

BURBANK, CA, April 19, 2011 – Warner Bros. Pictures announced today that Oscar® winner Marion Cotillard (“La Vie en Rose”) and Joseph Gordon-Levitt have joined the cast of “The Dark Knight Rises,” the epic conclusion to the Dark Knight legend.

Cotillard will appear as Miranda Tate, a Wayne Enterprises board member eager to help a still-grieving Bruce Wayne resume his father’s philanthropic endeavors for Gotham. Gordon-Levitt will play John Blake, a Gotham City beat cop assigned to special duty under the command of Commissioner Gordon. The film reunites the actors with Christopher Nolan, who recently directed them in the award-winning blockbuster “Inception.”

The director stated, “When you collaborate with people as talented as Marion and Joe, it comes as no surprise that you would want to repeat the experience. I immediately thought of them for the roles of Miranda and Blake, and I am looking forward to working with both of them again.”
Heading the cast of “The Dark Knight Rises,” Christian Bale stars as Bruce Wayne/Batman. The main cast also includes Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle and Tom Hardy as Bane. Nolan will direct the film from a screenplay he wrote with Jonathan Nolan, from a story by Christopher Nolan and David S. Goyer. Christopher Nolan will also produce the film with his longtime producing partner, Emma Thomas, and Charles Roven.

“The Dark Knight Rises” is slated for release on July 20, 2012. The film will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

Some Wonder Woman news came in from i09.com this morning, stating the show has gone through some rebooting.

The site cliams "We got a hold of a bunch of Wonder Woman pages that were released for casting purposes, including some new revised pages released in February and March, as the pilot was shooting. A lot of the additions seem focused on making Diana seem more formidable, to head off criticisms that she's too weepy and self-pitying. (It's also possible the episode was bumped up from a one-hour to a two-hour pilot.) Here are some of the changes.

Spoilers ahead...

"There seem to be a bunch of these, that were added just so we could see Diana throwing her weight (so to speak) around. At one point, she confronts a pair of security guards, whom the script calls Frick and Frack. They tell her she can't go up to the roof of a hospital, and she says, "I'm Wonder Woman. How do you think this ends?" And then she lifts one of them into the air by the throat and the other one by the chest, until they admit they're goons working for her nemesis, Veronica Cale. There's also a hilarious scene where Diana is driving, and a male driver cuts her off in traffic and makes an obscene gesture. She gives him the finger, and he pulls in front of her, blocking her. They both get out of their cars, and he says his obscene gesture was 'implying something that might be good for her.' He grabs her arm and says, 'Maybe I should teach you some manners.' Diana keeps saying things like, 'Let go of me, sir' and
'I'll ask you again to remove your hand.' But he responds that he'll let go of her arm when he feels like it, and calls her a 'Prada [female dog].' So she lifts him into the air by his throat. As far as I can tell neither of these scenes advances the plot, they just let us see Wonder Woman lifting guys by their throats."

So, nothing that advances the plot, but it's always nice to see Wonder Woman kicking ass and taking names. :p

Our friends over at BatmanYTB.com recently posted the attached shot to their Facebook page from a source who claims this may very well be concept art for Batman's new set of wheels in the final film in the franchise. Another interesting tidbit is that many sites that were posting this concept art have since removed it.

Is it real or fake? You decide, but it still looks intriguing regardless. Thanks to BatmanYTB.com for sharing this with us!

While I do hope, if this proves liget, this is not the final product we'll see on screen, I do think the design has potential.

It needs some serious work and tweaking as the Top Fuel Dragster meets F-15 Eagle is not working for me, but with said tweaking it could indeed be promising.

We've just received word from CBM that Warner Brothers has upped the VFX budget on Green Lantern by other 9-million dollars. The studio says however that, despite the film being a mere 11 weeks out, this new development will not affect the films release and, contrary to recent reports, there are no problems regarding the films development.

Says the article on CBM:

With the scrutiny of the first trailer and the release date rapidly approaching Warner Brothers has decided to up Green Lantern's VFX budget by another 9 million dollars. There is no worry that this will affect the release date of the film and WB are shrugging off that there are any problems with the film.

Says Chris De Faria, Warner's executive VP of digital production:

"There is no problem on Green Lantern. We try to add things to make the movie better until the 11th hour. That doesn't mean we're risking the movie up to the 11th hour."

Sony Imageworks and Rising Sun Pictures are the primary special FX companies working of the film and according to Variety's source they are delivering on time. De Faria has also stated that one sequence that was entirely CG had been cut in the development of the film, but after the studio saw an early cut of the film it was added back in and that Pixomondo was hired to complete the scene.

Thanks to CBM for passing this our way!

Yup.

It needs some serious work and tweaking as the Top Fuel Dragster meets F-15 Eagle is not working for me, but with said tweaking it could indeed be promising.

Yeah, I guess there are elements I appreciate, and others I just despise on that design. It is most likely just one of many design attempts, so I figure the final product will be better.

As for Hardy, he's building bulk, but he needs some muscle definition. (Though I suspect a muscle suit will do that for him).

Director Martin Campbell and screen writer Greg Berlanti recently discussed why they feel this summer's Green Lantern will seperate itself from other comic book movies coming down the pipe in the future...

Says Campbell on what makes GL so unique: “The interesting part of all this is to take a hero and take an adventure and then go out there,” the filmmaker said pointing to the ceiling and beyond. “That’s something you haven’t really seen.”

"This was a chance to do some things I’ve never done before. We have a story that is very human and very much about human emotions but what’s within that story takes us off-world and into some alien settings that are extraordinary.”

And Berlanti touched on why he feels GL will take things to the next level: “Look, to me, Spider-Man, Batman and those movies, I don’t know where you go with those other than plugging in another bad guy. They did an amazing job with those last two Batman movies but really [visually] where do you go with those characters? You’re still in New York or in Gotham. With this you go on and on. The characters, the planets, the reach…this is the hero who takes it the next level and beyond.”

So, nothing new plot wise, but it seems those involved in the project have high hopes for the highly anticipated comic book movie!

While attending the Critics Choice Movie Awards, composor Hans Zimmer answered a few questions surrounding his plans for the score of The Dark Knight Rises...

Has Nolan already involved Zimmer in the plans for the film?

“Yes,” Zimmer said with a smile. “And that’s all I’m going to say.”

So he knows the arc of the story and the villains, etc.?

“Possibly,” he said. “I’m thinking, I’m working, and I can’t tell you anything more.”

We pushed just a bit, asking whether his new score will incorporate themes from the first two “Batman” films and whether he’s thought about how to tie everything together.

“Sure, but the thing about Chris and myself is, of course what we try to do is we treat each one with the economy it deserves,” he explained. “I try to invent and reinvent and not just go over old ground. I think that’s the thing that was so exciting for people on ‘The Dark Knight.’ They knew we were doing a ‘Batman’ movie, but they had no idea it was going to be that sort of a ‘Batman’ movie.”

So is Zimmer already hard at work on the new themes for the score, even though nothing has been filmed yet? “Could be,” he teased. “Of course. Chris likes working that way, that I can give him music before he starts cutting. It’s very different.”

Also for Man of Steel fans, it is now confirmed by both Variety and Dealine that actress Antje Traue is playing Faora in Zach Snyder's Superman reboot...

Says Variety: Traue is confirmed for Man of Steel, with Variety also noting that she will be portraying the villainous Faora. Says the trade publication, "There are multiple Faoras in the Superman universe, so it remains unclear which one Traue has been tapped to play. The first Faora, Faora Hu-Ul, was introduced in Action Comics #471 as a beautiful Kryptonian woman with an intense unexplained hatred for all men. She was an expert at the Kryptonian martial art of Horo-Kanu, which utilizes pressure points on the Kryptonian body and made her a dangerous foe for Superman to fight in hand-to-hand combat. In fact, he was forced to flee from their first encounter. That said, it's more likely that Traue will be playing the version of Faora that debuted in Action Comics #779 as a Pokolistanian aide of General Zod. That character was an orphan metahuman with the ability to disrupt molecular bonds, which allowed her to create a mutagenic virus that served as the linchpin of Zod's plan."

- We have new set photos from the India set of The Dark Knight Rises, one of which shows off who appears to be, at least according to CBM, Josh Pence....

Thanks to CBM for the shots!

- In regards to the mysterious Green Screen Pit in photo #1, a local Indian newspaper had the following to say:

Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale's date with India got over on Monday morning, when they took a chartered flight back from Jodhpur to London. Both Nolan and Bale had arrived in India on May 4 and had shot for "The Dark Knight Rises" in front of and inside Jodhpur's Mehrangarh Fort on May 6 and 7. Accompanying Bale on this India trip was Josh Pence, the actor who was digitally superimposed with Armie Hammer's visage to portray one half of the Winklevoss twins in David Fincher's " The Social Network". Pence was recently cast as young Ra's Al Ghul and is one of Batman's greatest enemies.

Incidentally, a green screen was created just outside the Fort. Nolan shot in front of the green screen and used the Fort as the backdrop. Sources say that this backdrop of the Fort has been used to establish that Batman is in an exotic location which is isolated too. However, this backdrop isn't meant to be shown as India in the film. Back in the UK studios, this 30 ft x 30 ft green screen will be digitally modified to create the Lazarus Pit. For those not in the loop, a Lazarus Pit is used by Ra's Al Ghul for gaining restorative powers. Scenes of Bale being carried into the pit and then jumping out of it were also canned. A couple of locals were cast as extras in the scenes that were shot in India.

However, it was not all work and no play for the cast and crew of the film. "Despite the intense heat, filming continued without a hitch and the unit was satisfied with its Indian experience. The unit is supposed to have complimented the professionalism of the On The Road production unit handling the Indian leg of the shooting. On Sunday, the unit had a day off. So, Bale, who was accompanied by two children, took an autorickshaw ride in Jodhpur. However, no one really recognized him since he was wearing a cap and was sporting a beard. Besides, the whole team also went shopping. Bale bought textiles, shawls and pashmina from Jodhpur. The team also loved Indian food that was served to them during the shooting," says a source.

On Monday morning, around 9.30 am, Nolan, along with the cast, left for the UK. The rest of the film will be shot there.

- And to round out the Batman news today, Batman-News is reporting that the cast and crew of the third Nolan Bat flick are now headed for London!

Not too long ago, we heard that a Hawkman film was in the works over at Warner Brothers and now, Bleeding Cool has some news regarding the films overall feel and what Warner Brothers is aiming for in bringing the character to the big screen....

Said BC: Part INDIANA JONES/DA VINCI CODE, part GHOST tentpole about the fictional superhero that appears in D.C. Comic books. He used archaic weaponry and large, artificial wings attached to a harness made of the Nth metal that allows flight. Most incarnations of Hawkman work closely with a partner/romantic interest named Hawkgirl or Hawkwoman in his fight against supervillains. Based on the DC comic.

Check out this rumor regarding Alfred Pennyworth in The Dark Knight Rises that was posted over at the Superhero Hype forums... Take it with a grain of salt:

Have been hanging around the location filming just down the road from where I live off and on throughout the day. Could tell that the majority of the filming was going on inside rather than outside. I didn't take any pictures, because all there was to see was some lighting rigs, two big Panavision trucks, a wardrobe truck and security guards. Nothing worthy of a photograph.

We did eventually talk to a security guard, who told us The Croydon Delta Point building is doubling for a Gotham hospital and Alfred is admitted as a patient.

Does something happen to Alfred in Chris Nolan's Batman threequel? Only time will tell...

A recent report from Entertainment.STV states that actress Anne Hathaway got a little carried away during a fight scene being filmed for The Dark Knight Rises.

Says the site: The 28-year-old actress - who stars as Selina Kyle/Catwoman in the Christopher Nolan-directed film - got a "bit carried away" while staging an on-set fight and hurt a man with the butt of a gun.

A source said: "Anne got a bit carried away during a fight scene and mistakenly shoved the butt of a gun right into the actor's eye socket.

"He came away with a massive black eye. Anne was mortified."

However, the stuntman remained "good humoured" about the event after the Oscar-nominated star sent him a silver pen with the engraving 'Remember no one packs a punch like Anne'.

Check out what actor Dean Cain, who portrayed Superman for four seasons in Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, had to say about actor Henry Cavill portraying the Man of Steel to the Belfast Telegraph:

Said Cain: "They (journalists) asked me because he's a Brit you know, so they said 'a Brit's going to go play Superman and it's a big deal. How did I feel about that?' like it's a big affront."

"I have no problem with that whatsoever because the reality is the character himself Superman was from another planet but he was raised in the middle of America with small town American values."

"It's a tough role. I think he's going to do fantastically he's a very good actor. You never know what you're going to get into. It's a big role, it's an iconic role. I wish him luck."

"I have one son, he's eleven years old and he's very well aware of that fact(that I played Superman), yes. He gets reminded by his buddies and then he reminds them quickly that he's not really Superman, not even close."

Besides, some critics really don't know what a fun, summer movie really is. :p

According to Variety actor Russell Crowe (Gladiator) is in negotiations to portray Jor-El in Man of Steel...

the sites states verbatim: Christopher Nolan had all along been seeking an A-list thesp for Jor-El, Superman’s biological father, since agreeing to godfather the franchise reboot “Man of Steel” for Warner Bros. He’s got his man, and it’s Russell Crowe. With production set to start next month, Jor-El was one of the last roles to cast -- though they're still looking for a big name to play Superman’s biological mother, Lara.

A certain actor has been spotted on the set of The Dark Knight Rises. CONTAINS SPOILERS!!!

Just got back from Green Lantern. I expected to much from it. Even after reading the bad reviews. It was ok. Not bad. Not SO AWESOME.

Right now it's

Green Lantern
Thor

looks like I should reduce expectations on GL. That's fine. I thought it looked bad to begin with, but then saw the extended trailer and was won over and even wowed by it. Taking a step or two back should be easy to do.

Here's what Roger Ebert had to say (http://rogerebert.suntimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20110615/REVIEWS/110619994) about the movie to sum it up:

The bottom line: This is a comic-book movie. Fans of the Green Lantern (in his intergalactic story mode and not his earthbound TV series) will no doubt enjoy its visualizations and its references to details of the back story that escaped me. There's a whole lot going on. We don't really expect subtle acting or nuanced dialogue. We appreciate an effective villain. We demand one chaste kiss between hero and heroine, but no funny stuff. We enjoy spectacular visuals like the Green elders, who are immortal and apparently spend eternity balancing on top of towering pillars. "Green Lantern" delivers all of those things, and for what it's worth, I liked it more than "Thor."

That sounds pretty reasonable. I liked Thor - didn't love it - so hopefully it's at least as good as that. I'll probably go this weekend. Or not. I might see Super 8 instead and then see GL at a later date. Depends on what the GF wants to do.

Hm. That's not enough to warrant a sequel I figure, considering the high budget for this thing. That's too bad, cause I'd like to see them take another shot at it.

Just came back from a matinee showing. I'll keep this non-spoilerific by saying it was good, but not great. It was about on par with Thor I guess. It looked really nice, had a lot of good energy and momentum starting out, but sort of fell flat about 3/4 the way through. The relationship subplots were poorly developed, and sort of crept up on me, pretty much coming from left field. By the time I knew what was going on, I didn't care.

I was pretty much only looking for pretty lights and cool effects, which I got, but Hal's constructs were pretty pedestrian. Before someone says, "Oh, he's new," or that Hal has a limited imagination, or he's the least interesting GL, my response is it's a big screen movie. For a movie that supposedly has the most powerful weapon in the universe, it seemed pretty tame. The ring can create whatever the mind can imagine, so the only limitation is the bearer's mind. Or in this case, the writers. You only get one chance to impress.

I guess I needed something epic, after all the talk from writers about it being like a space opera, which it was so not. The suit was badass though. Very cool. As was Sinestro. He was great. This is why I hope they get a chance at a sequel, with writers who have a better imagination. I guess what disappointed me about this movie was my own personal feelings for GL. I like the GL Corps, which is why I am a bit disappointed with this movie. Whereas with Thor, I hate the character and everything about the character's history. So when I saw the movie, I was pleasantly surprised.

Saw it last night and I really enjoyed it! Forget what the majority of critics say, this is just a summer movie and it's meant to enjoy, which you do.

I am a Green Lantern fan and, although I really wasn't expecting much, I was pleasently surprised. I will not give too much away for those who've yet to see it, but I felt Mark Strong's appearance as Sinestro was one of the top reasons to see this film. I felt it was a strong performance that did justice his comic counterpart and the after credit scene was also a high point for me.

Nice to see Kilowog and Tomar, although I wish they'd had a bit more screen time and Hal's training scenes with Kilowog and Sinestro were also pretty good.

And Temereau Morrisons role as Abin Sur, though short, was very well done in my opinion. All this plus appearances by Amanda Waller and John Stewart, and a host of neat energy constructs made this a win for me!

Although I was surprised they chose Paralax as the main villian as opposed to say, the Manhunters, it worked and made for a fun movie that I enjoyed more than the last few X-Men and Spider-Man flicks.

I really hope a sequel is in the works, because I feel this entry into the DC Movie Universe really deserves another go around.

Throughly enjoyed this one!

Just came back from it and I really liked it. I don't really see what the critics didn't like. The story wasn't as bad as they made it out to be, though the way it was cut did kind of messed for the flow for me (maybe it was the way the romance was presented). Reynolds was really good, Mark Strong was awesome, and I thought Sarsgaard's character was more funny than menacing (probably because of his performance).

The only thing I didn't really like was the CG, it looked a little dated compared to what others have done. And thought there was a missed opportunity with the Corps, they could have done more with them. Haha, but then again it's probably because I saw Green Lantern: First Flight the night before and was hoping for/expecting more screen time for them.

Hopefully it makes enough for a sequel, with the way they set it up, I'm sure it's the story more people wanted to see.

I saw it last night, and I wasn't pleased with it at all. The movie felt really slow at some points, and scenes were out of place or had no relevance at all.

Things I didn't like

1) The relationship between Hal and Carol felt like a cheesy tv show, and should have been fined tuned

2) Since when is Hal a quitter? I didn't like that character aspect they brought to the table

3) So if a big bad threat to the corp is making its way to a planet, the GLs don't help out a rookie in taking it down? I don't really understand that part. The corp felt wasted.

4) Mark Strong did a great job as Sinestro, except I felt like the writers didn't explain a reason as to why *Spoiler* he would place the yellow ring on his finger. They didn't play out the angle where Sinestro doesn't agree with the Guardians, instead they made him a model GL. Then all of a sudden he disobeys them and take the yellow ring?

Things I likes

1) The Suit was pretty badass. I thought I wouldn't like it from the trailer, but the design made practical sense in a movie stand-point

2) Oa was awesome, the Corp members were awesome

3) Besides that one aspect of Hal, I thought Ryan Reynolds did a good job as Hal.

The only thing I didn't really like was the CG, it looked a little dated compared to what others have done.

I thought the CG looked good, but was weakest during the chase scene in the end through the asteroids. I almost laughed out loud it lookled silly and flat. I've had poops that looked like Parallax, so I basically thought a giant liquid turd was chasing Hal. (probably too much info...)

Yeah, the corps was really wasted in the film. They looked great all together, but then... nothing. It was all show, no follow through. It's like the millenium falcon taking on the Death Star all by itself. As for Sinestro putting the ring on, it seemed like they just had a major plot piece dealt with in fifteen seconds, which was thoroughly unsatisfying. He was certainly portrayed as a model GL, and that is why none of it makes sense. Like I said: writing sucked. I honestly don't expect Shakespeare when I see a comic book movie; I only ask that it be fun and make some sort of sense within the rules it creates for itself. There is a lot that made no sense. If you're going to have a movie that makes no sense, at least ramp up the fun factor to 11 and just blow my senses away. Which didn't happen either.

Mark Strong was so good as Sinestro, and Reynolds was decent as Hal. This is basically the reason why I hope they get a second shot at GL, cause I would like to see Strong's Sinestro get to play out as the main villain. I think they would do much better with a second film. It would also be nice to actually have some conversations and banter between the good guy and bad guy, instead of the good guy nearly getting suffocated by flying poo.

Note to future screenwriters: using shapeless blobby entitites as the main baddie doesn't work.

CTO15
06-22-2011, 03:16 PM
^You would think after the dismal failure of Fantastic Four 2, writers would stay away from a villain in cloud form.

I think I read somewhere that a sequel was already being written. And the main focus would be Hal and Sinestro's relationship. Even if the movie does good enough for a sequel, it's going to be tough sell to movie-goers who are already displeased with the 1st one.

In a rough translation from an interview with a Swedish website, actress Anne Hathaway briefly discusses the Catwoman costume as well as the responsibility of such a role and the training needed...

Says Swedish website Nojes Bladet: That is when she is asked to compare that role with his next in "The Dark Knight Rises" which she confirms that she accepts cat costume in his first superhero movie.

She is more than well aware that the role involves comparisons with Michelle Pfeiffer , Halle Berry and Eartha Kitt .

"It makes you work harder, I take a chance not that something may work. But there is a certain satisfaction in that, towards the end of the day did everything."

Reports from the film recording confirms that Anne Hathaway hardly been idle. She is reported to have torn down dozens of Catwoman costumes, and she recognizes that the role has meant a lot of physical training.

"Yes, really."

But then she looks down at the table and turns on itself. You can tell that she lost weight, but she would not tell you how she trained for the role of Catwoman. "That's a little embarrassing," she says, laughing nervously. "It's a bit personal. I'd rather talk about than acting on my training."

Thanks to CBM for the heads-up! ;)

I'm still unsure about Hathaway. Catwoman is a pretty sexy persona, and Hathaway is not. Whenever I've seen her play roles where she plays this sexpot, even in the movies she's taken her top off for, I always find it forced and kind of uncomfortable. Kind of like if your best friend's sister starts coming onto you, but you've all grown up together and you knew a time when she used to eat her own boogers. It's like, all you want to do is tell her to politely stop.

The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Warner Brothers is indeed moving ahead with a sequel to Green Lantern...

Says the magazine: Warner Bros. is already planning a sequel to Ryan Reynolds' superhero pic Green Lantern, despite the film’s soft performance at the box office. Sources say Warners still believes in the franchise, even if the studio is "somewhat disappointed" with Green Lantern’s result. Over the weekend, Green Lantern fell a steep 66% at the domestic box office, grossing $18.4 million for a cume of $89.3 million. That’s a big decline.

I felt the film deserved a sequel treatment and I am happy to hear the news, although the box office decline is rather disappointing.

When chating with Vulture, actor Christopher Meloni (Law and Order: SVU) hinted further at the role he'd be playing in Zach Snyder's Man of Steel....

When Vulture caught up with the now ex-Law & Order: SVU star at the Public Theater Gala earlier this week, he told us he'd be instead playing a general in the movie. But when we pressed for more information about the role, he said, "I can't tell you, or I'd have to kill you." We did manage to learn that he starts filming at the end of August and he'll shoot his part over the course of five months in locations including Chicago, Vancouver, and Edwards Air Force Base.

Something tells me he may be playing General Sam Lane, the father of Lois Lane, but just call it a hunch as Meloni did say his role was actually quite major.

That's good that GL is getting a sequel. I would like to see how they handle it, though at this point, my hopes are very low. Like Fantastic Four 2 low.

It's not surprising the huge drop off. There really was no good buzz about the film in general. I haven't recommended it to anyone I personally know, even though I did enjoy it at times.

. Speaking with L.A. Times, Jeff Robinov, president of Warner Brothers, updated the status of both Green Lantern 2 and The Flash movie.

Robinov said in part: “We had a decent opening so we learned there is an audience,” said Warner Bros. film group President Jeff Robinov, pointing to the film’s box office debut of $53 million. “To go forward we need to make it a little edgier and darker with more emphasis on action…. And we have to find a way to balance the time the movie spends in space versus on Earth.”

Later that year or in 2014, Warner could go ahead with a second Green Lantern or Flash movie. Robinov said the studio has “a solid script” for the Scarlet Speedster. The executive also remains interested in bringing DC heroes together for a “Justice League” movie.

The article also mentioned that Warner wants a new director for the next Green Lantern film as they weren't all that thrilled working with Mr. Campbell.

Jeff Bewkes, the CEO of Warner, admits there is no decision on Green Lantern 2 yet.

Said the Hollywood Reporter: Time Warner chairman and CEO Jeff Bewkes was clear when asked on a conference call Wednesday how he felt about the box office performance of Green Lantern, the June release from the conglomerate's film studio that disappointed.

"It did not live up to expectations - fell fairly far short of those," Bewkes said. Still, he didn't rule out a sequel at this point, saying that he was not in a position to tell at this time. "We will be deciding that in due course," he said. Sources had previously told The Hollywood Reporter that Warner Bros. was not giving up on a sequel.

Hmm... me thinks whoever designed the Superman suit also designed the new Spiderman suit. Is it just me, or does Supes' suit look... reptilian? I hope it looks better on screen. However, I do enjoy the bent metal. It predicts lots of potential bad-assery.

Cape looks a little long. I prefer a shorter cape for Supes... now I am nitpicking.

Check out this video of a Catwoman stunt on the set of The Dark Knight Rises that involves the Batpod and destroys a camera in the process...

Anne Hathaway responds to negative reactions to the Catwoman suit in an interview with MTV:

I was not going to admit it: I asked someone to send me a few reactions [to the photo]," she said. "And I happen to know that MTV's reaction was 'meh.' "

Now, we're not sure about the "meh" quote, but we will admit to using the phrases "cautiously optimistic," "unflattering" and "underwhelming" in our analysis.

Regardless, Hathaway said that no matter the first impressions, there is a lot more happening with that suit.

"What I am happy to say is, if you didn't like the photo, you only see about a 10th of what that suit can do," she promised. "And if you did like the photo, you have excellent taste."

As for Catwoman... we've only seen about a 10th of that suit can do? She meant it'll show boobies, right? Boobs and butt.

Well, Hathaway has shown her boobs a few times on screen, so it'll be normal stomping ground for her if that was the case. :p

What the hell? Go for it Anne, shows us those boobies!
