Since I figured we have a DC one, its time for Marvel.

With Captain America and Thor coming out next year, I think its time to have a board for updates.

Once cool thing I found on www.comicbookmovie.com was someone made a mock up Avengers poster

i tried looking for the script, but the reviews have said that its a great translation from the comics to the movie.

The script included the wit, 4th wall aspects of Deadpool. So I'm really excited to see this film, if/when it does get filmed.

Damn you Reynolds for becoming GL

pattycakeman
11-25-2010, 04:04 PM
Just because Reynolds is GL doesnt mean he cant be Deadpool.. he was already deadpool and remember he was already a member of the nightstalkers in Blade another marvel movie.. Chris Evans is even Captain America after being Human Troch.. Reynolds even still talks about his desire to play deadpool.. Hopefully he will play him i cant think of anyone else who has the wit to play him properly.

On another note.. im super excited for Thor and Captain America, love what I've seen so far from both!

CTO15

i know that Reynolds isn't locked to just GL, I'm just saying that there will probably be a GL trilogy, and it'll be interesting to see when he'll do Deadpool.

Remember. He's an actor. It's a job. I don't really care if he is deadpool green lantern or a part of nightstalker. I'm excited for both movies. Just like how chris is human torch and Cap. Doesn't matter cause they are not doing anymore/rebooting Fantastic four ( thank god )

http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/MarvelFreshman/news/?a=17749

Black widow could be in it. They could make it quite easy i think.
The story line already sounds like a movie.

I have high hopes for Avengers. Ghost Rider 2 I'm kind of on the fence about, but it sounds promising. Not unlike Punisher War Zone and Incredible Hulk where the movie almost seems to fit with the last one, but not quite. It'll be interesting to see what they come up with.

http://www.newsarama.com/film/jon-favreau-not-directing-iron-man-3-101214.html

I see this as a positive thing. I felt IM was very underwhelming and IM2 was worse. I thought the action sequences were incredibly poorly shot and cut and really looked like a TV movie or something. Favreau doesn't know how to shoot action, IMO.

That being said, I am on a general downward trend with MU films. X-men 3, Wolverine, Spider-man 3, Hulk, both IM films - I found they were all very lacking or just outright sucked. This is why I don't have high hopes for the Avengers movie. I admit, I got a kick out of seeing the footage from comiccon or wherever, where all the actors got up on stage together, but with Thor looking bad as well, I am not very excited.

Sorry to be a downer on this, but I really think there needs to be a director or creative team that takes some risks with the Marvel properties. The only upcoming MU film I am even remotely interested in is the X-men first class. I think it has a good cast (especially Magneto. I really like the actor that plays him) and Vaughn is a good director too. (Layercake was excellent).

Evan
12-20-2010, 01:01 AM
I have to disagree on the Iron Man films. Loved them. IM1 especially. I agree that the rest of the films you mention do seem to be lacking, some more than others, but I've still enjoyed them. I'm reserving judgement until I see Thor, but really looking forward to Avengers. As far as Favreau leaving IM, I'm disappointed, but it may be good from a creative stand point to get a fresh take in there, especially since it will be released after Avengers which I suspect will be the foundation of future MU films...unless it sucks.

Hantei
12-21-2010, 11:24 PM
I'm a soundtrack/score fan and the thing that's been bugging me with the MU films is that lack of a memorable score or theme. Not like the DC films where both Batman (loved the Batman Forever theme) and Superman have had an identifiable theme. Spider-Man takes exception to this, but I hate his.

Iron Man had an okay score and established theme, though unfortunately for IM2 they ditched the theme and the score seemed almost non-existent. I thought one of the best scores was the Incredible Hulk; it was memorable (for me anyway), had a theme, and wasn't ever drowned out by the sound effects. It was actually a movie I really enjoyed and rather disappointed that I didn't see theatres (not sure how this one fell under my radar).

Anyway, looking forward to the new movies and I'm really hoping they all deliver a memorable soundtrack. Both the Captain America and Avengers movies NEED a good catchy/memorable theme! Thor, meh, not a big deal to me.

I really like the Avengers theme for the current cartoon show. It gets stuck in my head for days at a time. If that was adapted to the upcoming movie, I think it'd be great. Might make sense for marketing purposes as well. I honestly don't see it happening, but if it did, I'd be okay with it.

I think it is still very popular, but it has its share of detractors too. With rising prices, some other negatives: the articulation is limited to certain numbers when it should not be, there are still issues QC here and there, re-use mold that Shin mentioned, paint applications and incompatible Of course, the character selection.

I wasn't a big fan of the AEMH's theme song at first either, but it's really grown on me. I actually have the same problem of it getting stuck in my head sometimes, haha, eventually I just made a rip and dumped it into my phone.

In relation to subject on a TV show theme appearing in the movie. When X-Men came out I was so hoping to hear the awesome 90s cartoon theme play, haha, unfortunately it never happened. Same deal with the 90s Spider-Man show with the sweet Joe Perry theme and the SM movie.

Hmm, Spidey's outfit looks interesting. I like how they dropped the embossed webbing from the Raimi movies, it never looked homemade in that series. Inked webbing lines on the outfit, like it. Maybe they're going with the Ultimate route where he's given an outfit after a match. Can't wait to see what the mask is like! BTW the bulges on his wrists, are those web-shooters?!?

http://img833.imageshack.us/img833/9537/webshooters.png

Cap's outfit looks pretty good, but I kinda hope they revise the mask for the cowl with protruding wings (instead of painted ones) for the Avengers movie. Are the soldiers in the back supposed to be Hydra soldiers? Reminds me of vipers from GI Joe....

Side view of the new Spidey suit with mask! The eyes seem a little smaller than I was expecting, and those are definitely some sort of web shooter device on his wrists (I'll assuming the small disc is where the fluid goes). Not sure about the costume itself, as it deviates from the classic design, I don't hate it but not too crazy about either (I'm assuming the slippers he's wearing are for stunt purposes). I'll probably get used to it once more promotional stuff for movie is released. Heh, and there's always the possibility that it'll get redesigned to the classic look in the sequels if the fan backlash is high.

Hmm, I'm thinking it'll probably be Maria Hill. As Jackson mentioned in the interview that the character will be his second in command.

Josh Whedon is directing the Avengers right? I think Morena Baccarin will probably have the edge, she kinda looks like Maria Hill. Mary Elizabeth Winstead could be a good Wasp, if that was the character in question. Kinda reminds me of the younger Wasp from AEMH. Cobie Smulders, I enjoy HIMYM, but not sure if I'll be able to get "Robin Sparkles" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FBmhfyF0mTE) out of my head if she gets casted, heh.

Wow, Jessica Lucas has great... assets..., haha. Imagine if the role was Wasp and she got casted. It'll probably be like the Heimdall thing all over again.

Doesn't really matter who they cast to me, whoever they go with I'll sure it'll be great!

Thor, was Portman/Foster's line "god, I hope you're not crazy" supposed to be a throwback to the Ultimate Thor?

And Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill, eh? Haha, I'm curious about this one, don't think Hill was ever one to joke around quite different from Robin Sparkles. Should be interesting!

I'll go see X-Men First Class for sure. If I can see it on cheap Tuesday (not many places do that anymore!) or a matinee, then all the better, but the same with any movie really. I don't mind paying full price to see it. If it's no good, so be it. That's part of the theatre experience. As long as I don't miss the trailers, and get to eat junk food, I'm happy.

For some reason I always miss the matinee shows. If it's a movie I want to watch I will pay full price or if I can win advance tickets that's even better.
If it's a movie I don't feel too excited about it's a rental like F4:RIse of the Silver Surfer.

It's a good year for comicbook adaptations. There's Green Lantern, X-men First Class and Captain America.

Huh, I didn't know Stevenson was cast as Volstagg.

On the new 3D tech for Amazing Spider-man, I'm assuming they've been using it since the start of production and not just recently.

Skull vs Kree for the Avengers, does seem a little much for the first movie, but at the same time does give good reason for a team to assemble. Maybe they're following similar path to the Breakout story arch, where all the heroes assembled together for the first time to stop the threat.

Haha, glad they didn't go with a theme song like they did for the Japanese 90s X-Men opening. Though, kinda wish they could have went with the design/style from that opening.

Yeah, that was the big downside to this movie. They almost needed an extra hour. But overall, I think they did a pretty good job, and I really enjoyed the movie, considering a few months ago I wasn't even going to bother to see this in the theater. Then again, I am one of the few people who really did not like the Iron Man movies.

Saw Thor this past Tuesday in 3D on the UltraAVX. I really really liked it! The way they implemented the Bifrost was cool. Ahh, and the ending credits does a find job setting up the Cap and Avengers movies. Only complaint was that it was hard to make out the frost giant battle, as it was blurry and dark. I think I'm gonna need to see this again, but in 2D the next time.

I saw it in 2D and the Frost Giant battle was dark and blurry as hell too. So I figure a) the theatre is being cheeky by not running the lightbulbs to their full wattage, hence the dark screan, so they can save money on bulbs or b) It's just crappy CG and they tried to get away with masking it in some blurry battle.

Looks like Cap's got protruding wings on his helmet! Hawkeye's design is heavily Ultimates influenced. Not sure why they didn't keep triangle arc design for Iron Man, the grays on the armour I'm guessing comes from Ultimates as well. Hulk, Thor, and Black Widow don't seem all too different. Just missing Ant-Man and Wasp in the picture there, too bad they're not in the movie.

I gotta echo that statement.

The first person view was neat (hopefully they'll be short and few, as I fear motion sickness may arise when added with 3D, I'm just no good when it comes to FPV especially FPS games). But at the same time it was a little underwhelming (probably because of prior exposure to Mirror's Edge). It was nice to see the web shooters in action. I probably would have liked the trailer a whole lot more had there been a 3rd person view on Spidey and some Lizard glimpses.

CTO15

So I saw Captain America last night:

Thing I liked
-------------

-Chris Evans did a great job as Rogers
-Tommy Lee Jones was awesome
-The Story pacing was great for the first 3rd of the movie
-The moments that Weaving was on screen, he played a great Skull
-The CGI was phenomenal for the shrinking of Chris Evans prior to the super soldier serum

Things I didn't like
----------------
- I felt like the pacing changed after the first 3rd of the movie. It kinda threw me off
- Some of the action scenes were too long
-Red Skull was very underused, but still a great job Weaving
- The CGI in some of the action scenes looked horrible
-There was a very anti-climatic event for a pretty significant part of Steve Rogers' history

Overall, I would rank this below Thor, but still a good effort by Marvel.

I saw it last night as well. Very good, though I agree with CTO15 that I enjoyed Thor a little more. It really was the pacing that kinda killed it, left some characterization underdeveloped. Fantastic origin development and first mission, afterwards they kinda fast forward to the last mission. Bucky's demise was a little underwhelming, would have been nice if Cap let out a "BUCKY!" And it would have been nice if they took like 30 seconds to introduce the Howling Commandos during the bar scene. The bookend present day scenes was a nice touch (especially the ending one)

Oh and the Avengers trailer after the credits, wow! That was the first time I saw it. Thor's hair got long and arms are bare, going for a classic look (no helmet still though). Ahh, but the cuts were so fast, could barely keep up with what was shown.

Anyone ever watch this X-men Anime that came out last year?

http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m616/pud333/detail.jpg

(Sorry about the text. I had to cut it up so it doesn't stretch
across the whole screen.)

I had heard about it but forgot until now, so I started watching
some episodes and it is not bad. Not great either, but I think
that has more to do with the retread of the tired same old topic
of Mutants vs humans, and the fact that the Japanese take on it
both stays true to the X-men, but at the same time strays away from it.

I'm about five episodes in, and every episode so far blends into the other,
so it feels like a long movie. Animation is nice and crisp. Very
"Ninja Scroll"-esque. The characters are mostly true to what we remember
them as, but the show definitely feels like an anime. I mean, that's the point,
after all, but it doesn't stand out as an X-men show.
It feels very generic, as they tend to come across one "boss" after another.
Most of the action is easy to follow, but sometimes they have a fight, like
Wolverine fighting some flying dude in mid-air on top of the Blackbird (yeah),
that is really hard to follow and just blurry the whole time. I dunno,
maye it's just the copy I've seen.

Anyway, I've always criticized anime for not having any substance.
Most shows tend to be this throw-away fan service soft core porn.
There's none of that here, although Emma Frost's proportions would make
even your regular comic book fan laugh. I swear they get bigger with every
scene she is in!

Keeping it spoiler free....

"Wow" and "whoa" were my reactions throughout the movie! Boy was it satisfying! I knew it was gonna be good, but it really went beyond my expectations. I was so giddy, I felt just a like kid all over again. Dare I say I almost shed a tear of joy seeing the awesome team-ups? Great during and after credit bonus scenes as well!

Did anyone else catch Cap's theme in that one scene? That was pretty cool. Though I don't recall hearing Thor, Hulk, or Iron Man's themes from their respective movies. Seems like a missed opportunity, the soundtrack/score could have been so much better if Silverstri had integrated their themes as well. The Avengers theme itself was pretty catchy, caught myself humming it on the drive back.

Planning to see it again in about a week, but I don't know if I can wait that long! Though before the second viewing, I must do a marathon of the previous films first. Surprisingly, my IMAX screening only showed trailers for Prometheus (can't wait!) and Frankenweenie. Unfortunately, Amazing Spidey and TDKR were absent, both of which I was expecting.

Saw it last night. My thoughts (Some spoilers):

1) Great movie. Certainly the best Marvel film to date. Best super hero movie ever? Eh, debatable. I still prefer the Batman films, but the tone and delivery is so different, it's like comparing apples and oranges almost.

2) Joss Whedon did the perfect job. They found their guy to finally make the Marvel films gel. I've always found the Marvel films to be not bad, but okay, except X2 and Spidery-man 2, which I thought was great. But usually, it's very underwhelming. Joss is a true fan, and I think getting a guy who cut his teeth on ensemble shows really helped. Having worked on his shows Buffy and Angel, where they eventually developed into large ensemble shows and then Firefly, which was the perfection of his development as a writer and director, he really knew how to give each character proper screen time. We all knew IM was going to be the guy to do it in the end, since Robert Downey Jr. is probably the best actor, and highest paid on the cast - deservedly so. But it was nice to see everyone shine. Except maybe Hawkeye. He was lame. I really hope Joss stays on for any Avengers sequels. Whatever the man wants: pay him.

3) The Hulk was badass. Best Hulk ever.

4) The movie looked like Transformers. A gray-ish, silver flying ship that has little guys popping out from the side of it - Transformers. The whole portal with the enemies flying in - Transformers. The daylight battle in the middle of the city - Transformers. The grunts looked like - Transformers. I'm not saying Transformers was particularly original, but aesthetically, it LOOKED like a Transformers movie at the end. This is my only real knock on the movie, but it was such a glaringly direct comparison, I couldn't get it out of my head. That said, great film. I just wish the last battle were a little more original.

I gotta say, I loved it when they had the theme blaring for the first time they assembled. It was epic!

I saw the movie again last night, and all I could think about was DOTM when watching the last battle. Doesn't mean I still didn't love it, just that the same formula is being used for this sci-fi end of earth-alien battles.

4) When I saw those flying things in the trailer my first thought was did they reuse something DOTM, but after seeing them in action in the film I think they are much more aesthetically pleasing and seem more realistic (if that makes any sense) than the flying ships in DOTM.

Okay, been wanting to ask this for a while, and I figured everyone's seen The Avengers by now. Why did Iron Man "fall" back through the portal? Seeing how he was in space and directing a propelling nuke, wouldn't the laws of physics say that he continues in the same direction as the nuke? Seeing as how space is frictionless, and he didn't use his repulsors/thrusters to push in the opposite direction back through the portal?

jacobot
06-20-2012, 12:17 PM
^ When he let go of the nuke, parts of his armor fired off and deteched in the direction of the nuke thus pushing him back to earth. Its the magic and monsters parts that defy the laws of physics ;)

CTO15
06-20-2012, 01:26 PM
Maybe it's the gravitational pull caused by the portal? Or the when his suit looses power, a bit of the rocket thrusters push him back. Since the rocket is firing one way, he has to be pushed back the other way, given newton's 3rd law.

Hmm, I'm more inclined to believe this. Cause I remember he lost power before letting go of the rocket, and I don't think the force of him jettisoning the booster-pack part of the armour would have given him enough force (at least not the rate of fall shown). It just looked like he straight up fell as soon as he let go of the rocket, so maybe it was the gravity from earth through the portal. Haha, now, is that possible?

ASM was awesome! I actually like it better than the first one by Sam Raimi. Keeping it spoiler free: I love how they utilized the webbing, something they never really did in the Raimi movies. The swinging was awesome as well, they did a really great job with the way spidey moved. Although there was no obvious Spider-man theme, I'm glad they didn't reuse the Danny Elfman one. I have never liked Elfman's Spidey theme.

Stan Lee's cameo was great! I didn't realize he did one for ASM, so I was surprised when it came up. But I think my favourite is still the one from FF: Rise of the Silver Surfer.

Anyone think Coulson or the secret base guys are LMDs?

I don't think Coulson is since I don't see Fury doing all that for an LMD to lead SHIELD.

As for Eric Koenig, earlier he mentioned that he played COD I think online with his brother. So he is Billy Koenig, his twin brother (most likely). Read an interview with the executive producer today, where he heavily suggested as such. Also they really haven't gone into LMDs in either the movies, or show, yet so it may be possible.
