Yeah, Death of the Family is going to be awesome. It's interesting you are buying Superman. I found with the new 52, there hasn't been a must buy Superman series yet. I'm hoping things will change next year when Snyder and Lee's Man of Steel comes out.

I forgot this one I got from a comic shop in Portland over the weekend. I was pretty disappointed in the lack of good comic shops there, but I did manage to find Batman: The Cult, which I've been looking for, for some time.

^^I'm interested in the H'EL on Earth storyline that's why I picked it up...will see how that goes. I know next month is going to be a big month with all the new #1s from the Marvel Universe.

And nice pick up on the graphic novels. I haven't read The Cult as yet

How is comic stores going to compete with Amazon? Graphic novels are almost $10 off at amazon.

I forgot about the Marvel #1s. That should be interesting. I'm about halfway done The Cult and it is... Different. I'm not sure I am okay with a Batman that is rendered completely helpless. That said, there are similarities in certain scenes to Nolan's TDKR. "Inspired" may be the word.

I usually prefer to shop in store because I love comic book shops, I love rifling through the stuff and I love the feeling I get from walking out with a handful of comics. But I'm also on a strict budget that has been halved since a baby is coming. So I try to do 2/3 of my shopping in store, and the final 1/3 at Amazon.

They also offer free shipping over $25. It's a reality I can't pass up if I want to stay collecting. The local store I support most is probably Metropolis Comics and Toys which is also a sponsor here. Their graphic novels are charged US cover price, and they have a frequent buyer card where for eatch item you buy in store over $10 you get a stamp and 10 stamps gets you $10 off your next purchase. Like everything in life, I try to find some sort of balance.

But yeah, very tough to compete with Amazon. But it's the same story with any small business trying to compete with big box stores.

Thanks for the reminder about the Marvel Now stuff! I forgot about them.:o :p Man, hope it isn't too late to place orders for those Marvel Now #1 blank variant sketch covers. Yes, I like blank covers. They come in handy at comic conventions. :D

Anybody know if DC comics discontinued their We Can Be Heroes blank variant covers for their comics? Only saw solicitations for Batman, Green Lantern, and Swamp Thing and nothing else. :(

I agree! I like to walk into a comic store and be able to browse through their comic selection as well. It brings back old memories from my childhood.:)

Yeah, that $10 off card comes in handy especially if you have a few saved up. :highfive: :D

Superman Birthright
Superman Last Son

Also picked up my first Absolute! All Star Superman. Wow. This is how graphic novels should be presented. It's pretty amazing. Can't wait until my Absolute Final Crisis gets here! One of the incredible things about this story is that it sums up Superman's origin story in four panels on one page. Awesome.

Saga vol. 1 graphic novel. Been reading good things about this series, and thought I'd give it a try.

Re: Comics / Graphic novels hauls thread

I just noticed Saga in the store the other day. Thought about giving it a try too. Though I find Brian Vaughan sort of uneven. I loved, loved Y, but I hated Ex Machina. Let me know how you like that one and if you recommend it.

Picked up Batman: Earth One, and Batman: Under the Red Hood. I love Doug Mahnke's artwork, ever since falling in love with his stuff on Final Crisis and Green Lantern.

Re: Comics / Graphic novels hauls thread

New 52 Batman and Robin: Born to Kill. Besides Snyder's Batman, this is probably the best New 52 book. I love the relationship between Bruce and Damien. Really made me like Damien with this series.

Man, buying comics in store is so much more fulfilling than hunting for toys and coming up empty handed. I always walk away with something at the comic shop.

Aquaman #14
The Dark Knight #14

Really liking Ghostbusters, they included stuff from the Real Ghostbusters and Extreme Ghostbusters cartoons as well as the game. The art by Dan Schoening is great, the style is reminiscent of a cartoon show, I hope he's here to stay!
