Toy Aisle Trolls

1 Attachment(s)
This photo below was taken this morning at the Walmart at Grandview Hwy in Vancouver. Luckily, a Hasbro rep was on-site and I had the opportunity to show her this f'd up scene...

Collecting action figures from retail stores in Greater Vancouver is already quite difficult because the supply never really meet the demands. Seeing thefts like this is making the hobby really frustrating. :crying:

I have never seen so many swapped figures at the same time in my life:
1. Civil War Captain America as Marvel's Shocker
2. Hulkbuster wave Dr Strange as Dormammu wave Dr Strange
3. Morbius as Spider-Gwen/Ben Reily Spider-man
4. Hawkeye as Spider-man 2099/UK (not shown)

Whoever you are, SHAME ON YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sadly stuff like this is why I've pretty much gone online only for Marvel Legends, which probably doesn't help get new cases rotated in :/

Stuff like this is getting really ridiculous. Saw a cable swapped out with a WINTER SOLDIER body and TOYBIZ cable head with a dormammu baf piece... it was truly a sight to behold, not in a good way.

The robbery is so bad at one WM here that the CS area has a small binder of previous wave ML6 figures... one per page showing Nuke, Cap, etc... which they look at even if you return something like a TF. Nice try WM but those pics are waves behind. :(

I've never done stuff like this before, I've always had the cash to buy what I want.
I make exceptions here and there but, i usually have the cash.
However, when figures are $34 with tax I can understand why it is happening.
And, I'll bet you this is just the tip of the iceberg, with the US Dollar constantly going up I can guarantee you the prices of toys are going to make another jump up.

Re: Toy Aisle Trolls

Yeah high prices definitely seem to boost the number of swappers out there. I've seen it happen with the SW 6" line at my local Walmart. If I see a swapped figure I will report it to customer service, it's the only way to squash this kind of behavior (hopefully the person who did the return is then banned from doing any returns at all).

I don't buy online because I look for those with a passable paint job and not two left legs/arms... Shipping is also another factor.

The CS staff would just need to look at the back of the packaging and they will realize that the figures have completely different colors! A blue Captain America vs. a yellow Shocker!

I totally agree with you on this. It's funny that when our dollars were strong (compared to the US dollars), the toys never got cheaper. Oh, the irony!

I think, the reason that stuff like this goes up so much in Canada is because the Chinese manufacturers want their payment in US Dollars.

Interesting theory, but I don't think the Canadian retailers get stock directly from the Chinese factories. I think the toys are usually shipped to the US warehouses and are then distributed to Canada with/for bilingual packaging according to the orders made by the Canadian retailers.

Not sure how it enters into the equation completely but Canada has a much higher tariff on Asian imports than the USA does as well.

Re: Toy Aisle Trolls

Solution: Non collector friendly packaging.

While its been nice to keep boxes to store un displayed figures, its probably time for Hasbro to change up the packaging enough that one cant simply open a box and swap out BAF parts or entire figures and return them to the retailer without question. Not saying full on toybiz plastic clam shells, but there has to be another way.

I have probably seen at least one figure/BAF swap on every visit to walmart for the past 3 years. As much as I'd love to say "train employees better"...the bottom line is most of them just don't care.

A while back I found a Ironman Electronic Helmet box empty at Markville Walmart. Either it was returned this way or someone put it on and walked out.

This was a good one from the weekend. Switched out head for the onslaught BAF and removed the hands. Agin Court mall Wal-Mart. Was also a jackal returned with a hobgoblin leg but that's far less shocking than this one.

Actually, I think the figure body and helmeted head are from an old Stealth Iron Man figure, so I guess the whole figure was swapped, but this guy couldn't be bothered to leave the hands in. Still never seen an Iron Skull in the wild at Ontario WMs.

Photographed this at Walmart Barton Street just a couple hours ago.

The reflection distorts the face, but that's a Movie Masters Harvey Dent that replaced the Jay Garrick. The BAF piece was switched out too with a BAF Allfather arm I believe. I alerted staff so hopefully it'll stay off the shelves.

I checked my Walmart again last week. Those 4 trolled Marvel Legends had been removed from the shelve, big thanks to that Hasbro rep!

I agree! Even just the old DUCU style packaging would do the trick.

Did that one at least have a head? LOL

I know many retail people don't care and will issue a return on almost anything, but the figure is clearly "broken" or "incomplete"...I could see missing the accessories but no head? c'monnnn.

These scams are really screwing us over for getting new figures at the big box stores.

Every store needs to put all their old ML on clearance, but they don't because all the waves use the same or similar codes. So the reasoning is, why would we put these misty knight figures from an old spider-man wave on clearance when the next spider-man vulture wings wave is on it's way with the same code.

Another problem seems to be nothing ever goes on clearance/deep discounts at toys r us and walmart like they do in the states. All my local stores are sitting on mountains of old DC, marvel and star wars, and two years after being filled to the brim with pegwarmers, walmart is just now clearing out star wars black series for half price.

All it would take is a non removable seal like on an xbox or ps4 if you peal it off it leaves the box all fucked and have the small white words " No returns if seal is broken, contact hasbro for broken toys"

Done and done. Collectors keep their boxes and consumers dont get fucked by swappers!

Spot on, Webs.

If the stores would deep discount the figures, I would probably finish all the waves that I had no interest in completing due to weak BAF or undesired character selection. Most of my local stores are sitting a surplus of left over Red Onslaught (cottonmouth, mockingbird, Whirlwind), Rhino (Misty Knight)BAF, Absorbing Man (Speed Demon and Beetle), Juggernaut (ice man, havok, kitty) BAF waves. Of those 3 waves Id gladly pick up the remaining figures from the Onslaught wave for say $10

Hasbro CSR is usually super generous if your story is reasonable and you have proof of purchase, though you will not get the same figure back depending on stock

This stuff really needs to stop.

Like that's a brand new figure, probably only 3 released in the city so far and he's retured with a sandman leg.

So frustrating.

At least you've found the box...better luck than I've had.

Hasbro just needs to go 80's style blister card and bubble cuz this is getting out of control.

As much as I hate what's going on, I absolutely adore seeing what other people are funding in their areas lol
