I’m a little gun shy because the last time I ordered a figure to pick up in store, they didn’t call me, I saw on this board that the figures were arriving in store and I had to call them.

Yes, if you go into your local EB with the two SKUs (or call them since no deposit is required) you then ask them to pre-order 6 figures for each wave. The store will get a full case and you grab your 6 figures and leave the 1 or 2 doubles behind.
As for getting called, it seems YMMV from store to store. Try another nearby EB (if that's an option) to see if you get better service.
