With the different listings for Movie and Basic figures it almost sounds like Master License type stuff. Is it possible that Playmates stuff was labeled as such? If not that's another huge license if so, but with McFarlane primarily doing 7", what does that mean for all the other manufacturers out there who are getting their slice of TMNT pie, unless McFarlane is also licensing it from Playmates/Nickelodeon. Regardless, definitely an interesting find.

Also new on that list are some Demon Slayer items we didn't know about.

I look forward to seeing those McFarlane turtles at some point. It would be nice to get some turtle figures that have a good sculpt and won't break by looking at it wrong unlike Neca's offerings.

I've got too many NECA TMNT figures to start replacing them all with new ones from McFarlane, but those vehicles and playsets will be very tempting…

It's most likely just an error.
I can't see Playmates letting go of the turtles license when they usually do pretty good with it. The only exception I know of is Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. But I don't know who is to blame for starting a new show and toyline back to back with the well received 2012 show.


With Demon Slayer, it's McFarlane toys. They have mentioned it during NYCC.

Playmates is the Master License holder. That means they can, and do, license out TMNT to other toy companies (NECA, Super7), while also making their own lines. So McFarlane getting in on the game isn't much of a stretch.

Playmates holds the master license but Nickelodeon is the company that owns the turtles license.
So giving McFarlane toys the turtles license makes no sense.
Why would you let someone else make money when you can profit yourself.

Because licensing is basically free money. You don't have to design anything, produce anything, ship anything, or even sell anything. All the risk is on the other party, and you either get a percentage of sales, or a flat fee up front, or both.
