Why do online stores sell figures for very expensive?

Whether they are old, classic, new, universe or legends many figures are over priced.

Why?

the average $20 dollar legend displayed in online stores cost $40 to even $70

I'm just wondering why.

I don't know which online stores you shop but usually it's the older harder to find figures that charges more. They don't have to pay rent so storing a figure longer or shorter time period in storage doesn't affect them that much so might as well wait for someone to take to $40 bait for let's say a rare Black Widow figure.
However, most cases they figures are around the same price in retail. It's the shipping that doubles the cost.

cmdstore its a good store but some things are just over priced.

an example:
http://www.cmdstore.com/redhuexmalet.html (69 for warlock)

http://www.cmdstore.com/marvel-legen...ider-girl.html ($50 for a spidergirl)

Re: Why do online stores sell figures for very expensive?

Sometimes stores will overcharge for a certain figure because it's the one they know that collectors want badly. The rest of the case would be much harder to sell and a greater chance that the store will get stuck with it (a pegwarmer) with no choice but to eventually clearance it out for below cost. So they build in a higher profit margin on the desirable figure(s) to account for this possibility.

Then again, some stores just scalp... with some really ridiculous prices.
