At first glance, the side-eye portrait does provide a little more personality and emotion. You have to imagine the figure in-hand to understand the limitations and nuisance of the design.

I wonder if this is being done to reduce paint QC issues? Maybe a side-eye look allows for a larger margin of error, compared to a centered look.

Good point, that could be why they're choosing to do the eyes this way. But besides that, the faces just look horrible in general (especially Batman). The Bruce headsculpt looks like a PS1 character model.

I feel like some of the headsculpts, these Batman movie ones in particular, probably have decent sculpts, but they always cover the heads in like inch thick paint instead of casting them in a fleshtone plastic.

So what you're saying is that it's the beauty on the inside that counts

It's the same case with many of the Diamond Select toys head sculpts.
The hardest part is working on the the head sculpt paint jobs within the budget they have.
And sometimes it's finding the factory that can deliver.

The Catwoman head looks fine to me
Looks pretty much exactly like Zoe Kravitz. Though I don?t know why they didn?t make a head with the mask we have seen where her mouth isn?t covered. The full balaclava is odd. The maskless one looks better to me.

That Bruce though? yeesh. Awful.
