Re: Marvel Legends price hikes

True that it may not be the MSRP however the retailers determine their own profit margins and, according to a buddy who works at TRU, their cost per unit is ridiculously high.

Re: Marvel Legends price hikes

Well TRU and Gamestop are essentially becoming specialty stores.

So no doubt they'll have their own markup.

Wal-mart is the cheapest option, but you'll have to hunt harder to find what you're looking for.

Re: Marvel Legends price hikes

I sold off all of my ML last year when I realized I just couldn't keep up with the stuff coming out. I might pick and choose specific figures to grab (Like NWH villains eventually) but otherwise will not be participating en masse.

No wonder I saw stealth Carter ringing up at 43 dollars. Ridiculous.

I think this is an area where TRU will try and focus more, if they can.

Exclusives mean you don't have an option as a consumer, and as such, if you have more of them, you can get away with the ridiculous prices.

The only good thing about that, is that eventually you get a stinker (TF Draculus) and that exclusivity hurts you to the point you end up having to clearance them, possibly at a loss.

For me it will suck, because I am invested in the GI Joe Classified line, and TRU is the only game in town for the exclusives (Cobra Island, Python Patrol, Tiger Force). So exclusivity, plus smaller supply means I have to make the calculation of whether or not I am willing to pay the extra high price for figure that won't likely be there the next time I check.

Oh joy!

What a disaster this is become. $40+ for a 6 inch figure that cost $20 5 years ago

Re: Marvel Legends price hikes

Just remember folks for those planning to stop going to TRU if they go belly up (not that us leaving would cause that solely) the other places in town will just fill the void with their own price hikes and more bullshit...

Just see what Walmart did when Target left...

Also can we not cut and paste the conversation from the last price hike and move on lol

They rarely have the good stuff, anyway.
I don't think those older figures would've gone up if TRU didn't used a generic SKU system

Re: Marvel Legends price hikes

ML weren't $20 5 years ago, but yes, the price difference between then and now is significant. But this is not a toy specific issue. Retailers in all industries are raising prices due to ballooning manufacturing and logistics costs.

EDIT - this is not specifically about TRU prices, which do seem higher than necessary. They have a history of overcharging and having to roll back prices.
