I don't mean to be harsh, but TRU is not going to live or die on the backs of collectors. We may constitute a reasonable percentage of their customer base, but not the majority by a wide margin.
Further to that, within the collector base, an even smaller percentage will be turned off by higher prices. Some will not even realize, and some will still pony up the money if that's where they find what they want.
High prices may hurt them long-term, particularly if there is a significant disparity across all categories. But other retailers absolutely will follow suit with their own price increases, closing that gap a little bit. The other thing to note is that TRU carries a much broader assortment than any other retailer in Canada, which gives them an advantage from a convenience perspective.
The unfortunate reality is that the vast majority of consumer goods will see a noticeable price increase this year (+/- 10%), if the retailers have not already taken it.
