That is a much better version than this........thing.
I have to take back my earlier compliment about the head sculpt. It isn't as classic looking as I first thought. I still think it is a good head sculpt, but not for this version of Superman.
As for the rest of the figure...........OOOFFAA!!!!
Not even remotely accurate for this era of Superman (outside of his embelm). I guess Todd felt a quick/simple reuse with a new head would be passable. That is something I expect from the big guys, not McFarlane (I know it happens, but he is usually pretty good at specific comic looks for characters).
Unfortunately this seems to continue the disappointing Superman figure trend from the recent reveals.
McFarlane can do better.

Official pic of the upcoming Target exclusive Gold Label Blue Beetle (Ted Kord).
Essentially, it's identical to the one in the Booster Gold 2-pack but with a more serious head sculpt and additional hands.

So funny. For a split second I got excited then I realized that I essentially already owned it. Translucent goggles like impulse has might have made me get this one too though

That can be said for a lot of the basic/classic versions of characters done in this line, like the Batman Beyond they did, that was a hodgepodge of looks and it was ass.

True. Though I have a particular affinity for Superman, vs other characters, so while I might not care about inaccuracies with Batman Beyond, for instance, (which I have, and I like), I don't have a single McFarlane Superman figure, because none of them is correct, in my opinion.
Meanwhile, I have several DC Direct Superman figures, and they all look great. Their articulation may not be the best, but at least I don't cringe every time I see them.
But, yes, you're right about McFarlane. I really wish they'd be more accurate in all their representations, overall.

Re: McFarlane Toys DC Multiverse toyline
Also, from time to time, Toynewsi.com has posted rumors of upcoming figures based on overseas retailer listings without photos. In the past, many if not all of previous listings have come true.
For people who want comic-based regular figures as opposed to ones based on alternate reality stories, video game versions or live-action movies/TV shows, these particular rumored figures might interest you:
-Atomic Skull (as part of a Superman 2-pack)
-Batman (Hush) ~ black & gray single carded re-release, presumably with the same head as the blue version
-Batwoman (DC Rebirth) ~ as part of a Batman/Batwoman/Clayface 3-pack
-Black Lightning (Final Crisis)
-Brainiac ~ as part of a DC Direct Page Punchers wave
-Catman (Villains United)
-Clayface (DC Rebirth) ~ as part of a Batman/Batwoman/Clayface 3-pack
-Firestorm (Crisis On Infinite Earths) ~ extremely likely, seeing how they did a Deathstorm figure and can just retool the sculpt
-Green Lantern (Alan Scott) (Day of Vengeance mini-series) ~ extremely likely, seeing as how they're releasing a figure based on his alternate reality Dread Lantern version
-Green Lantern (1st appearance) ~ could either refer to the Alan Scott figure or possibly Hal Jordan?
-Hawkman (Zero Hour)
-Jim Gordon as Batman (from Batman: Endgame)
-Midnighter of the Authority from Wildstorm Comics
-Riddler ~ listed only as "DC Classic", which might mean his classic leotard look?
-Sinestro (Sinestro Corps War)
-Supergirl (DC Rebirth)
-Superman (Earth-2) ~ as part of a DC Direct Page Punchers wave
-Waverider (Gold Label)
