Anyone ever watch this X-men Anime that came out last year?
(Sorry about the text. I had to cut it up so it doesn't stretch
across the whole screen.)
I had heard about it but forgot until now, so I started watching
some episodes and it is not bad. Not great either, but I think
that has more to do with the retread of the tired same old topic
of Mutants vs humans, and the fact that the Japanese take on it
both stays true to the X-men, but at the same time strays away from it.
I'm about five episodes in, and every episode so far blends into the other,
so it feels like a long movie. Animation is nice and crisp. Very
"Ninja Scroll"-esque. The characters are mostly true to what we remember
them as, but the show definitely
feels like an anime. I mean, that's the point,
after all, but it doesn't stand out as an X-men show.
It feels very generic, as they tend to come across one "boss" after another.
Most of the action is easy to follow, but sometimes they have a fight, like
Wolverine fighting some flying dude in mid-air on top of the Blackbird (yeah),
that is really hard to follow and just blurry the whole time. I dunno,
maye it's just the copy I've seen.
Anyway, I've always criticized anime for not having any substance.
Most shows tend to be this throw-away fan service soft core porn.
There's none of that here, although Emma Frost's proportions would make
even your regular comic book fan laugh. I swear they get bigger with every
scene she is in!
