Fixing up an old NES

So I bought this NES from the thrift store and I am going to be cleaning it up and Retr0briting it to restore the original colours. It looks a little beat up but after a little tlc I can bring it back to its former glory. Was also thinking of painting it but I am not too sure about how to do it. Sand, prime it, paint it, clear coat?

Sounds like you're on the right path. Personally I'd scrub it well with isopropyl alcohol instead of sanding it. Compressed air would work well for cleaning the electronics.

Does the accessories work? What about thr system itself? Can it handle the cartridges or do you have to blow it?

Re: Fixing up an old NES

I bought a bottle of compressed air for computers so I'll hit it with that today.

When I bought the system it didn't have an ac adapter or tv hook ups so I can't tell if the system works or not. The zapper and the controller are in good shape, I cleaned out all the grime and dirt and retrobrited the grey parts. But from what I can see all the parts are in good shape and just a little dusty. There is a bit of yellow goop from some of the motherboard pieces but that is common in a lot of old systems. As for cartridges, the system 72 pin connector inside the console that hooks up to cartridges is in great shape; no bent wires or heavy rust.
