That's a good point.

The ML/toy sales for Black Widow, ShangChi and Eternals will inevitably be a tougher sell. There aren't any traditional superhero costumes in the films either. Save for Red Guardian.

Most of the outfits look like civilian attire. Not a problem for adult collectors, but I could see casuals and kids being disinterested in owning them.

It's really gonna be on Spider-Man to do the heavy lifting when it comes to mass retail.

Yeah Spider-man is gonna be looking pretty swole after all the lifting he's gonna be doing in the future. Just my opinion but most of phase 4 seems like a tough sell. The first Captain Marvel movie didn't do all that well. Thor is getting replaced. Ant-Man and Dr Strange aren't exactly best sellers. Black Panther has no Chadwick anymore. We haven't had a Blade movie in like 20 years. Fantastic 4 doesn't have a good rep after its last outting.

I think the upcoming Avengers figures are going to sell really well too. Aren't they supposed to be making another "Best of" wave soon (I think I heard that somewhere)?

Captain Marvel is the perfect example of a film with poor merch/toy appeal, all pegwarmers... but an insanely successful film. Did over a Billion, thats a win.

Also Thor isnt getting replaced. Portman confirmed theyre doing the Jane Foster cancer storyline, and that ends a specific way.

BP2 will be huge, its inevitable.

Yeah but would the movie have done as well if it didn't tie into Infinity War? How many of those sales were from people who actually care about Captain Marvel? and how many of those sales are from people who watched it cause it ties into Infinity War?

Is it really a spoiler? She made a public statement about it. It's gonna be in all the press and trailers for the movie.

It isn't some secret twist, lol.

You're talking about the Billion dollar box office for Captain Marvel?

There's no way to know whether IW/Endgame played a part, but Captain Marvel still had good holds week to week. So lots of return audiences, kept it afloat and led it to a Billion. It had good word of mouth.

It didn't have record drop-off rates like Batman V Superman, for example.

"The Marvels" has a potentially very large audience for it's sequel.

All that being said, the Captain Marvel toys (despite the film's massive success) were pegwarmers and still are.

Sometimes merch success and film success aren't in alignment.

We may see that with Black Widow, Eternals and Shangchi.

Well, the Captain Marvel figures sucked ass, that's why they're peg-warming (regardless of the film). The characters weren't interesting and I feel like that's why no one purchased them.

Re: Marvel Legends discussion

Is Hasbro obligated to make toys for each MCU film? It doesn't take a rocket scientist to think the Eternals movie and character designs don't lend themselves to "fun" action figures.

Not every fandom needs action figures smh.
