Blind box = "pay and pray" that you get a well-painted figure.

That said, the GI Joe paintjobs are nowhere near as bad as the Transformers ones.

I mean, aren’t people basically already largely doing this?

I don’t think folks get to pick their paint job on pre order figures.

I guess you could return it without opening if it really sucks. But there is still an element of crossing figures and hoping for the best.

If it is in stores, that is different of course.

Before HQ closed down my local Gamestop, I was lucky enough that when I pre-ordered at my local store, and they called me to come in to pick it up, the clerk gave me the choice of which one to buy since I often came right away before anyone else picked theirs up.

Obviously I inspected the paintjob and the QC on every one of them and picked out the best from the lot.

The good old days...

Slaughter 50 Bucks! oh boy, not sure he seems to warrant that price tag, he's not really that deluxe, I see he's sold out for Home Delivery on Gamestop...I think I'll stick with the Valaverse Slaughter I got.

Same here. And about an hour later I got a shipping notice for Transformer Motormaster. Transformer Sludge arrived today. Expensive few days but glad to finally get these items.
