Is Disney the new Hasbro?

I have to say when I look at the confused offerings from Hasbro lately (ie. tons of vintage in 'new' toy lines) and overpriced re-run ships, and then I see the nice Droid Factory offerings from Disney -

Is Hasbro on the way out? Apparently Marvel makes money for Hasbro, SW does not (last earnings report. ) And some of that is just market forcrs, but SW just doesn't thrill anymore. ( Except the sail barge)

And with the focus on 6 inch, has Hasbro passed me by or veen left behind? Can they turn it around?

Disney probably already licences more lines than Hasbro produces.

Re: Is Disney the new Hasbro?

Gonna go with Nope. Very rarely do I ever see anything in the Disney Store that even catches my attention, while everything else I buy is Hasbro produced. Now if only they would acquire the DC license. My Marvel Legends are lonely, and everything Matel puts out looks like a dog digested it and pooped it out before they sealed it in the box and sent it out to the store.

Re: Is Disney the new Hasbro?

Gonna go with no.

Hasbro owns the Transformers IP, which reported strong sales in articles I saw for last year.

Problem with Star Wars and Marvel is the licence situation. They don’t own those IPs and thus have to pay to make the toys.

I doubt Hasbro is in any real trouble, but I guess time will tell.

Re: Is Disney the new Hasbro?

Ironically, it's more like Hasbro is aiming to be the new Disney (or be more like Disney). They make very little profit with selling Disney licensed toys. Instead they preffer making money through multim?dia and licensing out their own brand like power rangers, transformers and my little pony. They recently lost out the Disney princess license to Mattel but they don't care, they want to be more IP owners now rather than toy salesmen taking all the risk.
