Speculatively, it may depend at what point in the supply chain the error was identified. Was it known at the factory or after the product was shipped to Hasbro and they taken ownership?

Re: G.I. Joe Classified Series 6 inch discussion

Ill be getting the legit EEL at the end of the week from Amazon.com so I can compare.

But my thoughts are the figure is legit and "taken" somehow off the factory line and repackaged in fake boxes. Probably so pirates can sell at a higher price point with boxed items as "new"

The weapons box is definately a reprint given the obvious spelling error "ELL". On top of that if you grab another weapons box from a real figure -- the EEL box has a matte feel to the cardboard with faded colours. The legit weapons boxes are printed on glossy paper with more vivid colours.

Also the outside box is pretty damn good, but ill speculate that the same applies to outside box as well.

I’m going with this is Elliot “ELL” EEL. Cobra deep water specialist.

That could have happened and the factory is recovering costs by selling them to local Chinese sellers.
Or those misspelled ones were actually for the Asian market. It wouldn't be the first time where an American toy product that was released in Asia has different spelling on the box.

Here is a link to a Youtube video comparing a KO Tamashii Nations Darth Vader to an original.

This is from 6 years ago, but it shows some of the differences in packaging. Notably, like Primetyme pointed out, the difference in paper/cardboard quality, while minimal, is noticeable. Also the video points out differences in the printing of some of the words/logos.

The figure itself is considered good, if not almost equal, quality compared to the original.

These companies are looking to make money on whatever is currently "hot" because it will probably sell well. The sheer number of sellers on Aliexpress, combined with the amounts being sold also leads me towards thinking these are highly quality KOs. The seller who everyone used has sold almost 500 Eels. There are other sellers who have sold over 100 as well. One I looked at said the maximum customer order was 500 units!! That seems like a lot of product for an exclusive (that hasn't been switched to wide release yet).
