Not going to see it, I doubt that they can do proper 3D from a material that was originally filmed in 2D. It will most likely look like cardboard cut outs. Although any CGI elements will probably look good, if they went back and re-rendered those scenes with two focal points? Even if the 3D looks good, the movie was crap.

Re: Are You Going To See The Phantom Menace in 3D?

The wife hadn't seen it so I took her last night. I just wish they were doing this a few years from now when my son would be old enough to watch them. Not sure when the original trilogy will hit so maybe that will line up.

Anyway, it had been a while since I had seen it and something still bothers me. I'm not talking about the lame plot points, the terrible dialog given to our young Darth Vader, or even how all but one of the Trade Federation ships just disappear for no reason. All that stuff I can chalk up to Lucas being terrible when he has too much control. I can overlook most of it.

The real issue is that is. What do we see at the start of the movie? Some fully trained Jedi. Then you get this feeling "oh man, Star Wars is back". Early on we are shown that a properly trained Jedi has super-speed. Then we never see this again in any of the movies. More importantly, when Obi-Wan is waiting behind the shields to go help fight Darth Maul he just forgets that he has the super-speed. He could have just zipped through there and helped in the fight. Basically Qui-Gon dies because Obi-Wan is forgetful?

Re: Are You Going To See The Phantom Menace in 3D?

I say "yay" but it's not a "must-see" in my book. I say "yay" because the nerd in me says, "It's Star Wars back on the big screen! Go now!"

Obi-Wan in ROTS tells Anakin he has the high ground and slices and dices him no problem.
And Obi-Wan totally gives away the game by glancing over to the saber several times while Maul stares on. Clearly Darth Maul was already thinking about what he was going to have for dinner later or something. He just spaces out and has this dumb looking on his face. It's sad cause we see this awesome double-bladed lightsaber coolness and then 15 minutes later it's gone forever. Would have been nice to see Maul in later movies.
