I've seen some pics online (somewhere). Personally I think they look better with the vest/armour on than off, but again just personal preference.
Plus I think it was dumb of Hasbro not to make them removable. They did it for years at the 3&3/4" scale which was part of the fun being able to swap and customize.
You would think at the larger scale they could do it just as easily.
