Thanks. Have any of you received email from DHLl express indicating to prepay for customs clearance? In my case, it's an Ebay purchase that I already paid Ebay for the taxes.

Email says it's optional and I can pay at delivery too.

Yup, that’s happened to me. Although I’m not 100% sure it was DHL although most of my bad experiences were with them. I should have paid upon delivery. It around X-Mas and it was a shipment from BBTS ( it was a long time ago so my memory of the exact details of the purchase is a bit sketchy) the guy shows up very late and can’t find my prepaid payment in the system. He says he’s running late and can’t stay to figure it out and he’ll have to take my stuff with him. Wasn’t going to happen! I insisted that he contact the company and figure this out in front of me. Took a while but they got it sorted out. Lesson learned

Re: Shipping Issues, Customs, Duties, Taxes, Etc...

I ended up pre-paying as I don't want it to get delayed even more.

The Ebay international shipping hub had it for over 2 weeks before even sending it out to me. Then they put a value of $40 on it, which is what I was charged tax for, even though I paid all the taxes when I bought it as it was $150 for the item. It almost seems like Ebay's trying to pocket the tax money on international sales.

eBay would NEVER EVER EVER EVER do that.......

That's why their website still looks like it's from 2004 and they just vacuum up profit while providing little to sellers and buyers because they own the market.

No need to better and nobody will stop them.

On topic. I've been trying to find an answer to your question, but don't see much that's helpful. You could maybe call CBSA and ask, also check if your close to a CBSA site and the DHL warehouse and self clear it if possible...cost isn't much guess it depends on the principal of it.

I thought I read that eBay international shipping is now exclusively using DHL, which is very bad news for customs fees.

Unfortunately, it's DHL Express. They hand it over to a local company for last mile delivery. The shipping hub ships to Ontario and then travels to the west, so it's already in Canada.

The tax was only $2.xx. I'm just pissed at the $10 fee I have to pay, especially when there shouldn't be any need for that as I paid all the taxes. It is because of Ebay international shipping that I hardly ever buy from Ebay anymore, or I buy from Canadian sellers.

In this case though, the deal was too good to pass up as I was finally able to get an affordable Black Series Snowspeeder. It's still worth it with the extra $12 I have to pay, but just annoyed and wondering why I even had to pay and whether it's something that Ebay did wrong.

It really shouldn't matter as Ebay charges the customs and tax when you check out. That's the reason for my comment of them pocketing the tax money (jokingly of course, as a large company like Ebay would never do that...right?).

The declared value according to the DHL receipt was $40, which is why tax was only $2.xx, but I paid Ebay taxes on $150USD when I checked out.

Ordering from Ringside Colletibles via FedEx I've been hit by duties.

But they have a regular mail option as well, which I keep forgetting about, which avoided the duties for me in the past

Last few times I've ordered from Hasbro Pulse has shipped with DHL as well, no issues with extra charges yet knock on wood.
