Those asshats are one of the sellers that buys everything out on Walmart, then sells it for triple the price. We talk about scalpers on Ebay, but these small Canadian retailers can be worse sometimes.

While CMD's prices are generally high, and they price their own stuff at "market" rates, rather than MSRP, they don't scalp Walmart's supply.

They buy direct from Hasbro. But they also sell on marketplace sites like Walmart, Best Buy, and Amazon, and they further raise their prices to offset the percentage that the big retailers take for sales on their marketplaces.

The price on CMDstore.ca is $74.99. And, as always, you are free to not shop anywhere you don't want to.

Exactly. Unless someone making that claim can prove CMD is doing this then feel free to share otherwise it's nothing but online speculation devoid of fact.

It's not just them, the other marketplace sellers are doing that too. The figures were there for the sale price for a few hours. Suddenly they're all gone and CMD Stores price shows up. Where did all the figures end up? The same nonsense happens on Amazon too. The figures are up for MSRP. They suddenly sell out and the Marketplace prices show up.

Not every store does this, but CMD always seems to be the one selling stuff as a 3P seller for ridiculous prices.

Re: Marvel Legends discussion

There are usually several sellers offering the same item. The displayed price is almost always the lowest price being offered. Usually that is Walmart's own price, which says "sold and shipped by Walmart."

But once Walmart's supply sells out, which it will do quickly with a big sale, then the next lowest price shows up. In this case it's CMD who are selling it at their price of $75 plus $11 dollars markup that Walmart takes as a cut.

You can actually think of Walmart as the scalper, because they are essentially buying it from CMD at $75, and selling it to you at $86. (That's not technically what's going on, but it is effectively.)

Other times, when Walmart sells out, it just says "Price unavailable" because there are no other sellers. I think that's a poor implementation, but whatever.

The same happens on Amazon, but it's even worse, since Amazon will hike up their own prices based on whatever their crazy algorithm feels like doing. And the scalpers on Amazon are true scalpers, often buying up Amazon's own exclusives, and immediately listing them back on Amazon.

Most of the time the product doesn't even leave Amazon's warehouse, since the scalper uses that same address. And Amazon doesn't care, because they sell their own stock out, and then get another bite when the scalper sells the same product they just sold to him. It's fucked.
